He was signed to Pittsburgh-based Rostrum Records and released his debut album Blue Slide Park on November 8, 2011, which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 despite being released completely independently. He released five studio albums in his lifetime, which all peaked in the top 5, along with a posthumous album titled "Circles" with help from producer Jon Brion and Miller's family.
In 2013, Miller released his second studio album, "Watching Movies With the Sound Off". The album featured artists such as Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator, Ab-Soul, and long-time friend Schoolboy Q. The album took a more personal approach compared to his previous works.
In 2014, Miller released the 24-track mixtape "Faces". Considered by many to be one of his best works, he explores themes of drug use, employing and featuring collaborators of Mac from his previous album, including Schoolboy Q and Earl Sweatshirt, but also sees new faces such as Rick Ross.
In 2015, Mac released his third studio album, "GO:OD AM", his first with new label Warner Records. The album featured a more energetic and vibrant theme than "Faces" and "Watching Movies With The Sound Off", reflecting a more optimistic, redemptive angle on his personal life, while maintaining elements of his introspective and thought-provoking style from earlier works.
In 2016, Miller released his fourth studio album, titled "The Divine Feminine". He explores themes of love and femininity, largely influenced by his relationship with Ariana Grande at the time and featuring appearances from the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Anderson Paak.
In August 2018, following major events in Miller's life, including his breakup with Ariana Grande, with Miller's drug addiction alleged to be a contributing factor, as well as a car crash incident in which McCormick was charged with a DUI, Miller released his fifth and final studio album during his lifetime titled "Swimming". Continuing the dive into his personal life, Miller explores his heartfelt struggles and grief in the past, but remains optimistic for the future. Swimming was nominated for Best Rap Album posthumously at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
Miller had struggled with substance abuse for a long time before his death. On September 7, 2018, he was found dead in his home in Los Angeles, California from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol, only a little over a month after the release of "Swimming". He was only 26 years old. McCormick was buried in his hometown of Pittsburgh. Miller's passing was largely unexpected and had a large impact on the hip-hop community as a whole, with many paying their respects to Miller. On October 31, 2018, a tribute concert, titled "Mac Miller: A Celebration of Life", featured renowned artists and many longtime collaborators of Miller including Travis Scott, Schoolboy Q, SZA, Chance the Rapper, and Earl Sweatshirt. The concert was a celebration of the late rapper's life and musical achievements, and all profits were donated to the Mac Miller Circles Fund, which provides young people from underprivileged backgrounds with opportunities to explore arts and music.
In January 2020, Miller's posthumous album titled "Circles", worked on in companionship with his album "Swimming", was announced on January 8 along with the single "Good News" and released later that month. Every track on the album was accompanied by a video of the same name, often with psychedelic imagery and images of Mac before his passing and throughout his life. With a more melancholic theme compared to his previous works, the album was well-received by fans and critics alike, renowned for the care placed in continuing Mac's artistic vision.
And, he did it all without a Drake feature.

Yβall is dead weight, less great, always gettinβ second place
I tend to race ahead of pace, dippinβ while Iβm dressed in Bape
Then they chase, catch me if you can, I ainβt DiCaprio
This lucid dream will have you go like half a dose of Adderall
Capicola sandwichβs are tasty from Primantiβs
Iβm a 5β7 giant, Brandon Jacobs, Eli Manning
Girls want makeup, get demanding, but they fake like orange tanning
For a test that we ainβt study for, wonder will she love me more
With money, cause if not, Iβm not sure what all this money for
Feelinβ like a hundred wars are goinβ on currently
Soldiers sent to death on some jets for the currency
Poison, take this mercury, Iβll teach you for a learnerβs fee
How to turn your girlfriend to a circus freak
Cool by the word of Keith, fabric by the hand of Zeus
Actinβ like you fuckinβ with me, thatβs some shit I canβt excuse
Focus is on manual, control the panoramic view, universe
You got a chance, donβt blow it like how a tuba works
I plan to do, somethinβ that ainβt tangible
Now Iβm bout to hand it to
The homie Michael Rock, hear what he sayinβ to you
[Verse 2: Sir Michael Rocks]
Take a trip, took a molly out a bank a populari
And the word around the city is he sittin in a Ferrari
I told my self I wouldnβt get it, Iβm sorry
Thatβs my bad, I party till my cardies get foggy
Canβt keep her hands off of me, got her locked, and lost the key
We smoke, make it hard to see, we go harder then Carter one
Excuse me baby pardon me, can you fuck me like the honeymoon?
Not saying its coming soon, but I want the real show
Give me the treatment that you getting all them heels for
The shit they payin all the bills for
Man I missed it, that cake taste delicious
They canβt wait for vacations, paid for by pictures
Iβm feeling good, Iβm pulling bills Iβm real as hell
I donβt front I roll blunts and papers
Donβt fuck with fakers
Your girl is asking me if Iβmma take her
Iβm straight though
You see Iβm booked up til April
Thatβs mine, thats me, I take those
You try to see some pesoβs than shake though
You get exactly what you paid for, stop acting like you canβt go
Swagging til the ankles
I feel you baby
Hopefully I look familiar, lately
Falling down the same rabbit hole looking for love
But youβll never ever get it because
It seem like itβll only happen when Iβm holding the drugs
You can never ever see it because
[Mac Miller]
Life a cliche, it aint a bad one
First the plane land and then the bags come
We walking on this planet seeking action
Breaking girls hearts, sorry Miss Jackson
Falling down the same rabbit hole looking for love
But youβll never ever get it because
Seem like itβll only happen when Iβm holding the drugs
You can never ever see it
And it wonβt stop til the aliens fight the robots
And all the ladies take their clothes off
Iβm here with Mikey and we gonna Rock
This some shit you wonβt top
I said it wonβt stop til the aliens fight the robots
And all the ladies take their clothes off
Iβm here with Mikey and we gonna Rock
This some shit you wonβt top
Iβm so high what you think about that babe
On some other shit, tell βem baby act crazy
Fifteen thousand, blow it on clothes
Six in the morning still sitting here throwed
Iβm bugginβ out, bugginβ out, I wonder if they know
Pull up to the house, and I wonder if she know

In "Aliens Fighting Robots," Mac Miller and Sir Michael Rocks create a vibe that is a mashup of hip-hop with dreamy, psychedelic beats. Both artists rap about drugs, love, and the search for something more, expressing their emotions and observations through vivid imagery.
Mac Miller sets the tone in the first verse, boasting about his success in comparison to those who cannot keep up with him. However, he then transitions into a more introspective and melancholic description of his search for love and meaning. The second verse, delivered by Sir Michael Rocks, is more upbeat and carefree, with the rapper enjoying the glamorous life that his success has brought him. Both artists come together in the chorus, seemingly yearning for something more significant than just material possessions and fleeting experiences.
There are many possible interpretations of the lyrics in "Aliens Fighting Robots," but one common thread is the artists' search for something genuine and authentic. Mac Miller and Sir Michael Rocks are both successful in their own right, but their lyrics suggest that they feel unfulfilled by the superficial aspects of their lives. The repeated refrain about aliens and robots fighting could be seen as an allegory for the conflicts and struggles humans face as they search for meaning and purpose.
