Founding members Chuck Robertson, Sascha Lazor, Todd Rosenberg, Carter Benson and James Malis started the group in high school but the band's membership has changed frequently since its inception. Drummer Todd Rosenberg left the band in 1999, Benson left the band in 2002, and bassist Mark Iversen left the band in 2006. The current lineup consists of:
* Chuck Robertson (lead vocals/rhythm guitar/primary lyricist)
* Sascha Lazor (lead guitar/banjo/primary composer),
* Keith Douglas (trumpet/backing vocals)
* Ed Hernandez (trombone)
* Brian Flenniken (drums/percussion),
* Cris Badham (bass guitar).
The band used to play under the name The Ivy League, but in 1996 they changed their name after signing to the Honest Don's Records label to avoid confusion (and potential litigation) with two prior bands that went by the same moniker. The band's debut album, Quality Soft Core, was released the following year. After the release of the album, the band was signed to Fat Mike's label Fat Wreck Chords, through which the Mad Caddies have since released 4 studio albums, an EP and a live album.

Bring It Down
Mad Caddies Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've watched a couple decades pass on by
We are born to breed the grand illusion
Through the oligarchy's eyes
With all of the war and all of the greed
And all the toxic hate it feeds
And for what?
So a handful of rich white men can succeed
Don't bring it down on me
Some are awake, others still sleeping
Through this paradigm of violence, blood, and lies
We decimate the earth for shareholders
While she slowly wilts and dies
They're pushing the drugs and they monger the fear
The police state is already here
So for now I pledge allegiance
To the hippies, punks, geeks, and queers
Don't bring it down on me
I'm taking a stand for peace
The lyrics to Mad Caddies's song "Bring It Down" speak to the disillusionment felt by many towards the current political and social climate. The first verse establishes the idea that society is living under a grand illusion, bred by those in power. This illusion is perpetuated through war, greed, and hate, all of which are tools used to maintain the power of a select group of wealthy individuals. The singer notes that they are "seeing clear for the first time" after decades of living within this construct, hinting at a newfound clarity and understanding of the world's problems.
The second verse touches on themes of oppression and the destruction of the environment. The singer suggests that society is manipulated by those in power, pushing drugs and fear in order to maintain control. The police state is already here, signaling the loss of freedom and increased surveillance. Despite this, the singer remains hopeful in their allegiance to a variety of subcultures, recognizing that they offer a sense of community and support in a world that can be hostile and unforgiving.
Overall, the lyrics to "Bring It Down" highlight the negative aspects of modern society, while also acknowledging the potential for change and resistance. The song urges listeners not to let the weight of the world bring them down, encouraging them to take a stand for peace and advocate for change.
