Which proves that religious tradition in itself cannot save a person's soul. Jesus said that unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Many people think (mistakenly) that going to church or coming from a 'Christian family' makes one a Christian. No, one must repent of one's sin and believe on one's own account.

However some people reject the idea that they are sinners. In that case, how can one believe? How will a person accept life-saving surgery, who does not even think that he is sick? Who will get on a boat, if he thinks that he can swim 2000 miles to shore without any help?

(1st John 1:8) 'If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.'

Sin is 'missing the mark'. Even an unbeliever, if he 'misses the mark' of his own moral ideals, is a sinner by definition.
A guilty conscience demonstrates awareness of sin on the emotional level. But a person who has no conscience, who can do evil without feeling any remorse, is in a worse situation.

I'm not sure that the concept of 'Christian nation' has much validity. However I think it was a noble goal which its leaders had in mind when Zambia declared itself as such. But medieval 'Christendom' is no more, and it had many failings to be sure. For if Jesus' kingdom is NOT OF THIS WORLD, how can we conceive of the Church in territorial terms?

Also I find terribly dangerous the collusion between Church and State which hurts the integrity of the Church above all. God ordained Church and State as distinct institutions, each designed for its own purposes. And whereas no State will survive the Second Coming, the Church of blood-bought believers will last for all eternity. Therefore I say that your 'founding fathers' had no new principle to expound, for Church and State are INHERENTLY separate.

As I recall, the New Testament speaks of churches in, at, or of certain locales.
Yet it did not exercise 'sovereign' control over whole regions and their populations.
And the early Church was always subversive of prevailing cultural values. I think that we need to be also, in our time. There is so much evil and falsehood being propagated from so many sources.

I doubt that such freedom exists in places like Russia, China, Iran, Turkey, Syria, etc. Citizens are expected to approve everything their government does, no matter how evil.

I LOVE the orthodox faith and proud to be born into it as we also taught Russia this faith and they did a good job preserving it. I just want better relations with them not to always feel we are being betrayed as we were in the past during Turkish Occupation.

I think most Christians in the Middle East are Orthodox Christians and most Russian Christians are Orthodox as well.Syria has long been known to be protectors of Christians and protectors of minority faiths for millennia.Hafez,along with his son Dr.Bashar al-Asadd have been popular among the Syrian people for just this reason

As an Ashurian Christian who’s people are the indigenous people of North Iraq, and Syria that still speak the language of Christ, I am thankful for Putin and Russia along with Assad’s government for not backing down.

And if it wasn’t for the Bolshevik take over of Russia we would not have been abandoned back in the early 1900’s and we Christians would’ve most likely had a piece of our ancestral home today. But anything is possible these days.

There are many villages in Syria AND Iraq where people still speak Aramaic including the Nineveh Plains (in Iraq). We need to protect those villages and the people especially since those locations are where Christianity started.

As a turk i really like putin as a president. When he has a problem with you he says that to your face , if you are a friend he shows his great manners and friendship. Even if it may be of a purely political motivation, the efforts that Russia has made through out these years to defending Christian faith and Christians is obvious and undeniable. Russia is just doing the right thing that America refuses to do. And that displeases America greatly.
