1) Is a project by Martin Schindler founded on or about 1997 which disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2008. Both Martin Schindler and Tina Schindler are also active in electro act Black Heaven and metal outfit Sepia.
The band's name derives from Roman and Etruscan mythology, where Mantus and his wife, Mania were gods of the underworld. They were associated with the city Mantua. Mantus was identified as the "leader of souls", escorting the souls of the dead down into the underworld.
As already said, Mantus is a project by Martin Schindler. But his idea of dark romance only could have been realised by alternating singing of female and male voices. That's why he involved his sister always named as Thalia, which is certainly not her real name.
So the alternating female/male-singing is one incisive aspect of Mantus' musical appearance. Overall the style of the music ranges doom-metal to some kind of pop. The texts contain themes like love, hate, death, perpetuity or immortality but also criticism on global problems as racism, xenophobia and rape.
The reason for their minor popularity in spite of existing for 8 years and releasing 6 albums is that they never gave concerts or appeared in the charts (they never had any ambitions, too).

Labyrinth der Zeit
Mantus Lyrics

Ein anderer ganz weit weg
Ich hab mich längst entschieden
Und bleibe unentdeckt
Die Stadt voller Geräusche
Verworren und verzerrt
Und Vögel die nicht singen
Willkommen in der Wirklichkeit
Ein Tänzer der die Stille wählt
Geschichten, die man stumm erzählt
Ein Feuer dass nicht brennen will
Der Traum von Freiheit irgendwann
Die Schuld die man ertragen kann
Ein Licht das in der Nacht zerfällt
Der Himmel ruht in Frieden
Die Hölle ruft nach mir
Das Streben nach Bewusstheit
Verstand den ich verlier
Ich zähle schon die Stunden
Wenn meine Stimmung schweigt
Willkommen in der Kälte
Im Labyrinth der Zeit
The lyrics of Mantus's "Labyrinth der Zeit" describe a feeling of being lost in time and space. The singer knows that there are different paths to take, some leading to other people and others to isolation. The singer has already chosen to remain hidden and unseen. The city is described as noisy and distorted, with birds that no longer sing but instead scream in pain. The song captures the feeling of being overwhelmed by the harshness and cruelty of reality.
The second part of the song brings in a theme of contrast. A dancer chooses silence, stories are told silently, and a fire refuses to burn. The dream of freedom is expressed alongside the idea of bearing guilt. A light that fades away in the night. The singer feels torn between heaven and hell, and the pursuit of consciousness causes confusion and loss of sanity. The singer counts the passing hours, feeling alone and trapped in the labyrinth of time.
Overall, the song paints a picture of existential turmoil and the feeling of being lost in a world that is cruel and unforgiving. It expresses the desire to escape this reality and find a sense of freedom and peace.
