Nicknamed "Pappy Grove", Manu Dibango was a musical innovator whose work over six decades inspired some of the greatest artists of our time.
The Cameroonian saxophonist, who died at 86 March 24, 2020 after contracting coronavirus,

Whether it was Congolese rumba in the 1950s, disco in the 1970s or hip-hop in the 1990s, his contribution to the development of modern music cannot be overstated.

The singer, songwriter and producer then turned his attention to another genre, and was in the vanguard of the disco era in the early 1970s.

RIP Manu. Had to hear this again. Been a while.

Thanks for putting this out! I first heard this beat on a NYC radio station on a Grand Master Flash show. He had this beat on one of his mixes. I recorded it on an old fashion tape recorder. The name of the artist was not mentioned after the song/show. For over 25 years, I would go to record stores particularly latin/afro-cuban and shops that sold afro-beats...even music afficianados that sold tapes on the streets and asked if they knew the artist of this beat. I told myself this sound like a Manu-Dibango type sound but never came across this musical piece as I searched the internet...Now over 25 years later, I finally accidentally found this beat as I was searching for another beat I've been searching for for over 15 years! Thanks again for putting this out! I now feel relief as a great burden is now off my back or a peculiar itch that you can't find to scratch!!! Thank you much again!!! PEACE

This is Makosa music from Cameroon I think. Africa funk, the funkiest!

Omg this brings back some very happy memories of my childhood. My dad used to play this on his vinyl and we'd all gather round and listen to Manu Dibango with him.
It is so heart breaking that this virus claimed his life. Legends never die. His music 🎷🎵🎶🎼🎷will live on. RIP grand Manu💔😢🙏🏽
