Strangers In The Night
Manuel & The Music Of The Mountains Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Strangers in the night,
Exchanging glances
Wandering the night,
What were the chances
We'd be sharing love
Before the night was through

Something in your eyes
Was so inviting
Something in your smile
Was so exciting
Something in my heart
Told me I must have you

Strangers in the night
Two lonely people
We were strangers in the night
Up to the moment
When we said our first hello
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away
A warm embracing dance away

And ever since that night
We've been together
Lovers at first sight
In love forever
It turned out so right

Strangers in the night
Two lonely people
We were strangers in the night
Up to the moment
When we said our first hello
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away

A warm embracing dance away
For strangers in the night.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Manuel & The Music Of The Mountains's song "Strangers In The Night" tell a classic tale of unexpected love that blooms between two strangers who meet under the stars. The song begins with the two people exchanging glances and wandering the night, never expecting to fall in love with someone they just met. However, as they looked into each others' eyes and smiled, they recognized a magnetic pull between them that they could not ignore. Something in the woman's eyes was so inviting, something in her smile so exciting, and something in the man's heart told him he must have her.

As the night progresses, the two strangers realize that they were meant to be together, despite having just met. They are two lonely people who found each other and discovered that love was just a glance away, a warm embracing dance away. Since they said their first hello, they have been together, lovers at first sight, in love forever. The song captures the magic of that special moment when two people unexpectedly find each other and fall in love, a moment that can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Probably one of my very favorite versions of this song. Just dreamy.

My parents played this album hundreds of times when I was a little girl (early 70's). It reminds me of happy days at home with my family, travelling overseas, and hot, lazy Christmas days. Beautiful!

@afnadh Glad you're enjoying the music. Manuel was really Geoff Love (English), and "The Music of the Mountains" orchestra was really The Geoff Love Orchestra. So, I suppose they were mainly British, but I don't really know. In 1959, Geoff recorded "The Honeymoon Song". But, it's Latin feel made it sound different from his normal recordings. So, to emphasise the difference, "Manuel" was born, and became very popular, with many singles & albums, some in the UK charts. Best wishes.

@afnadh I started to buy the albums after Manuel had his hit single in 1976 - Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto de Aranjuez. The earlier discs (1960 - 1971) I found online a few years ago when a record shop was having a sale. Sadly, most of Manuel's albums are no longer available. Only 3 can be purchased online - Mountain Fiesta (1964), Reflections (1969) and Carnival (1971). I've uploaded all his albums to YouTube, so I hope you find more songs you like.
