At the height of her career her songs were recorded by some of pop music’s most important stars: Mama Cass, Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell, Astrud Gilberto, Julie London, Jackie DeShannon, Carmen McCrae, The Lennon Sisters, and Claudine Longet. Her first song to be recorded was "Moon Ride" by the jazz singer Chris Connor in 1958, while she was still in high school. Later, there were two hit versions of the Margo Guryan-penned "Sunday Morning" released a year apart in the late 1960s — the first by Spanky And Our Gang, and the second by Oliver (who had previous success with "Good Morning Starshine" and "Jean").
Although she preferred writing songs that others could record and perform, in 1968 Guryan recorded and released an album entitled "Take a Picture". Although the success of this record back then was limited, it has since become a much sought-after collector’s item.
"Take A Picture" was reissued in 2000 by Franklin Castle Records. A collection of demos entitled 27 Demos is also available.

Sun shining on your eyes
Sleepy face
Smiling into mine
Sunday morning
Lots of time with nothing to do
Lots of time to spend with you
It's so quiet in the street
We can hear the sounds of feet walking by
I'll put coffee on to brew
We can have a cup or two
And do
What other people do
On Sunday morning
Sunday morning Sunday morning
Sunday Sunday I love Sunday
Sunday morning
Come hold me in your arms
I love you
Everything is all right
Sunday morning
Lots of time
Lots of time
On Sunday morning
The song "Sunday Morning" by Margo Guryan is a sweet, simple reflection on the peaceful feeling of a lazy Sunday spent with a loved one. The lyrics describe the sun shining on the sleepy faces of the two lovers, with smiles exchanged between them. The day is filled with plenty of time to spend together with nothing to do.
The scene is set with a quiet street, allowing the couple to hear the sound of feet walking by. The singer puts coffee on to brew, and they settle in to enjoy a cup or two together. The carefree vibe of the song is reinforced with the line "we can do what other people do on Sunday morning", implying that there is no rush or pressure to be productive or get things done. The repetition of the simple phrase "Sunday morning" reinforces the idea of this being a peaceful, relaxing day to spend with someone special.
Overall, "Sunday Morning" is a beautiful ode to the simple pleasures of life: love, relaxation, and companionship. It captures the feeling of a day filled with nothing but time, allowing for quiet reflection and appreciation of the world around us.

I only a few minutes ago found out about Ms Guryan, and her music and everything, but I’ve known Sunday Morning from my favourite singer’s last album, me Julie London (Yummy, Yummy, Yummy) - here’s a link; https://youtu.be/KWkgdYMDimo.
I loved this song - never knew much about its writer, and knew Ms London‘’s musical taste (she loved jazz, her and Bobby Troupe, and I know that Jack Webb, her first husband had a huge jazz collection), so it really makes sense that she’d cover this track.
Sigh…
What’s called’ music’ today is such garbage (and that’s NOT ‘just what someone older says’, the stuff which is/has been foisted on people for the past couple of decades - by and large- is aural ...🙄.
It’s so wonderful to ‘discover’ (for me) a new artist like Ms Guryan. In a way, she reminds me of Brian Wilson, and his innate musical talent(s).
Update:
First, sorry about those typos. I fixed them. Such an amazing performer - hell; an amazing writer, as well.
I don't know if I'm alone in this, but, like I said, I'm a HUGE fan of Ms Julie London, and I have her last album (I PRIZE my record collection. People with just tracks today don't understand what 'collecting' music IS, much less that wonderful feeling of FINALLY getting hold of a recording you'd searched for. Sigh), Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, and - though I initially got it because I had read about it (RE search Incredibly Strange Music, Vol II), in a chapter wherein Jello Biafra was talking about his collection, and he thought the combination of the cool, beautiful Ms 'Cry Me a River', singing Mighty Quinn, etc 'bizarre'.
I fell in love with the album, and thought the tracks were amazing - ahead of their time....
Anyyyyway, one track on the album was Sunday Morning, and I thought it beautiful.
Julie does a terrific job with it, and I really never gave much thought the song's background, 'til several years later, when someone introduced me to Ms Guryan's work (as most people who are familiar with her know, the big reason she's not known as well as she ought to be is that she was a shy person, devoted to music, yes, but, wasn't concerned about getting the word out, i.e., marketing, promoting, and she made only a very few albums (ALL, gorgeous).
One thing I did was try to make my own 'mash-up', of both Ms Guryan and Ms London singing this - trading riffs,as even they've different voices, they're both in the same key, and both performers are more breathy 'singers' than true (from the diaphragm) 'SINGERS' (I DONT mean to slight either lady, it's just how most people sing).
I've not uploaded it (I don't think I can, as I HATE the YouTube ' c-pyr-ght police' - the algorithm which takes things down 🤑).
I saw my version as being sung by a woman a 2 stages of her life; the youthful, Margo, and the older, mature Julie (today's mixing software makes it really a joy to work with).
I hope someone'll take these 2 versions and do what I did - and post it.
I thank Ms London for introducing this song to me, and Ms Guryan, for creating it. And more. 💐

Though not presently musically active, Margo Guryan is still alive, albeit 80 years old. She was already 31 when this was recorded in 1968.
