In the past, band members dressed in outlandish makeup and costumes, and engaged in intentionally shocking behavior both onstage and off. Their lyrics often received criticism for their anti-religious sentiment and references to sex, violence and drugs, while their live performances were frequently called offensive and obscene. On several occasions, protests and petitions led to the group being blocked from performing, with at least three US states passing legislation banning the group from performing at state-owned venues. They released a number of platinum-selling albums, including Antichrist Superstar (1996) and Mechanical Animals (1998). These albums, along with their highly stylized music videos and worldwide touring, brought public recognition to Marilyn Manson. In 1999, news media, infamously, falsely blamed the band for influencing the perpetrators of the Columbine High School massacre.
As this controversy began to wane throughout the 2000s, so did the band's mainstream popularity. Despite this, Jon Wiederhorn of MTV, in June 2003, referred to Marilyn Manson as "the only true artist today". Marilyn Manson is widely regarded as being one of the most iconic and controversial figures in rock music, with the band and its lead singer influencing numerous other groups and musicians, both in metal-associated acts and also in wider popular culture. VH1 ranked Marilyn Manson as the seventy-eighth best rock band on their 100 Great Artists of Hard Rock. They were inducted into the Kerrang! Hall of Fame in 2000, and have been nominated for four Grammy Awards. In the U.S., the band has seen ten of its releases debut in the top ten, including two number-one albums. Marilyn Manson have sold in excess of 50 million records worldwide.

Make a psalm into my dirty bomb
So dance, motherfucker, dance
Racing through red lights
I'm unstable, I'm not a show horse
I can't be bridled, of course
I'm outstanding, I'm unregretted
Whoa, in reverse
You can't play this game and host all the pieces
Hold your breath and just wait
Someone else will pay for your sins
Not convinced by the cast to the same
My goddamned puppeteers
Whoa!
Whoa!
I'm unstable, I'm not a show horse
I can't be bridled, of course
I'm outstanding, unregretted
I got tattooed in reverse
Whoa, got tattooed in reverse
Whoa, in reverse
Your confession means nothing
So fuck your attrition
There ain't nothing in my hourglass
Just sands from the Dead Sea
And I'm aiming my weapon
And I'm aiming my weapon
Your confession means nothing
So fuck your attrition
There ain't nothing in my hourglass
Just sands from the Dead Sea
And I'm aiming my weapon
fuck your Bible and your Babel
Make a psalm into my dirty bomb
So dance, motherfucker, dance
Racing through red lights
So fuck your Bible and your Babel
Make a psalm into my dirty bomb
So dance, motherfucker, dance
Racing through red lights
I'm unstable, I'm not a show horse
I can't be bridled, of course
I'm outstanding, I'm unregretted
I got tattooed in reverse
I got tattooed in reverse
The lyrics of Marilyn Manson's song "Tattooed in Reverse" speak to the rejection of traditional religious teachings and societal norms. The line "So fuck your Bible and your Babel, make a psalm into my dirty bomb" expresses Manson's disdain for organized religion and the idea that religious texts are used to manipulate and control people. Manson sees himself as a rebel and outsider, with lyrics like "I'm unstable, I'm not a show horse, I can't be bridled, of course" and "I'm unregretted, I got tattooed in reverse," suggesting that he has intentionally chosen a non-conforming path.
The lines "Someone else will pay for your sins, not convinced by the cast to the same, my goddamned puppeteers" could be interpreted as a critique of society's tendency to place blame and responsibility on others, rather than taking personal accountability. This idea is further emphasized through the line "Your confession means nothing, so fuck your attrition" suggesting that Manson rejects the notion of seeking forgiveness or redemption.
Overall, the lyrics of "Tattooed in Reverse" portray Manson as a rebellious outsider who rejects traditional religious teachings and societal norms, choosing to live life on his own terms.

I am in love with this guy since my 14th birthday, when I saw him the first time on stage at Bizarre Festival in Germany.
I would like to say, that he raised me up a little bit with his art, music, lyrics.
I will never get tired of Brian.
I love the controversity he is always in.
Now at the age of 40, I am still wearing black.
My mum hoped, that this 'Hype' will end, when I get older.
But it didn't.
Still she is like:
Look what Manson has done to you!
Black, Black, Black ... he put you down and you never came back to light.
Funny, how she still isn't able to understand my way of living.
I love my life, its a good one.
@no-zk1uy
I'm crying and I'll tell you why. I started listening to Marilyn when I was in my teens. I was called a freak for listening to a white man who hated black people and was a racist. I told everyone he's not racist he makes music for everyone. He was like a drug to me even though my sister called me evil and a devil worshipper I couldn't stop listening to him. It's like he knew me and I didn't have to pretend to be someone I wasn't. I could be happy with the violent sexual lyrics he was spitting and no one could understand why and I was happy with that. The fact that I could understand and no one else could. Now so many years later here is a black woman in his video... And I'm still Loving this man at the age of 36. Rock on bitches.

He was never racist to began with. But honestly I'm happy to see a black person who likes him. I have black family members i also have black friends but nobody i know likes him other than myself and kids.
@malevolentdefiance2901
Anita Adams Good for you! You shouldn’t have to pretend to be someone your not. You’re you, embrace it.
