In 2001, the band regrouped, with guitarist James Valentine added to the line-up, and pursued a new direction under the name: Maroon 5. At this point, Jesse Carmichael switched to playing the keyboards and this has become his main instrument in the band (although he also plays rhythm guitar to this day). After these changes, Maroon 5 signed with Octone Records and released their debut album, "Songs About Jane", in June 2002. The album's lead single "Harder to Breathe", received heavy airplay, which helped the album to debut at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. For the next few years, the band toured extensively worldwide in support of Songs About Jane and produced two live recordings: 2004's "1.22.03.Acoustic" and 2005's "Live Friday the 13th". In 2006, Ryan Dusick officially left the band after suffering from serious wrist and shoulder injuries and was replaced by Matt Flynn. The band recorded their second album, "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" and released it in May 2007. The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single, "Makes Me Wonder", became the band's first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100.
On September 21, 2010, the band released their third studio album entitled "Hands All Over". It was re-released in 2011 to include the single "Moves like Jagger" (featuring Christina Aguilera). While the original version of the album received mixed reviews, "Moves like Jagger" reached the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band released their next album, "Overexposed", on June 26, 2012. All four singles of the album were really successful on the charts - for example, the second single from Overexposed, "One More Night" (released on June 19, 2012), reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2014, the band signed with Interscope Records and released their fifth studio album, "V", with the very-first line-up of six official band members, as keyboardist and backing vocalist PJ Morton became an official member in 2012. The album debuted at top of the weekly Billboard 200 chart. Since its debut in 2002, the band has sold more than 15 million albums in the United States and over 100 million singles and 27 million albums worldwide.
Must Get Out
Maroon 5 Lyrics

Weaving figure eights and circles around your head
I try to laugh but cry instead
Patiently wait to hear the words you've never said
Fumbling through your dresser drawer
Forgot what I was looking for
Try to guide me in the right direction
Keeping everything inside
Close my eyes and listen to you cry
I'm lifting you up
I'm letting you down
I'm dancing till dawn
I'm fooling around
I'm not giving up
I'm making your love
This city's made us crazy and we must get out
"This is not goodbye," she said
"It's just time for me to rest my head"
She does not walk, she runs instead
Down these jagged streets and into my bed
When I was fumbling through your dresser drawer
Forgot what I was looking for
Try to guide me in the right direction
Making use of all this time
Keeping everything inside
Close my eyes and listen to you cry
I'm lifting you up
I'm letting you down
I'm dancing till dawn
I'm fooling around
I'm not giving up
I'm making your love
This city's made us crazy and we must get out
There's only so much I can do for you
After all of the things you've put me through
I'm lifting you up
I'm letting you down
I'm dancing till dawn
I'm fooling around
I'm not giving up
I'm making your love
This city's made us crazy and we must get out
I'm lifting you up
I'm letting you down
I'm dancing till dawn
I'm fooling around
I'm not giving up
I'm making your love
This city's made us crazy and we must get out
I'm lifting you up (oh oh)
I'm letting you down (oh oh)
I'm dancing till dawn (oh oh)
I'm fooling around (oh oh)
I'm not giving up (oh oh)
I'm making your love (oh oh)
This city's made us crazy and we must get out (oh oh)
In Maroon 5's "Must Get Out," the singer reflects on a relationship that seems to have run its course. He describes his efforts to keep the relationship going by evoking imagery of sewing circles and figure eights around the other person's head, trying to guide them and be patient with their lack of communication. He seems to care deeply for this person ("I'm making your love"), but the situation is taking a toll on them both: they're stuck in a city that's driving them crazy, and despite their best efforts, the relationship is falling apart ("there's only so much I can do for you after all of the things you've put me through"). The chorus repeats a series of contradictory images that emphasize the singer's emotional upheaval: he's lifting the other person up and letting them down, dancing until dawn and fooling around - all while holding onto the possibility that they might still be able to make things work ("this is not goodbye").
The second verse introduces a new perspective: the other person acknowledges that they need to leave the situation behind ("this is not goodbye, it's just time for me to rest my head"), and they seem to take charge of their own destiny ("she does not walk, she runs instead"). The singer is still holding on, though - he repeats the imagery of fumbling through the other person's dresser drawer and trying to guide them in the right direction. The chorus repeats twice more before fading out, each time with an interlude of "oh oh" that emphasizes the singer's unresolved feelings.
Overall, "Must Get Out" is a complicated and emotionally layered song about a relationship that's in trouble. The imagery of sewing circles and figure eights, paired with the repeated chorus that's both upbeat and melancholy, captures the push-pull feeling of being caught in a relationship that's shifting beneath your feet. The song is notable for its tight harmonies and clever use of minor keys, which create a moody atmosphere that's both grounding and unsettling.
