1) Maxine Ella Brown (born 18 August 1939, in Kingstree, South Carolina) is an American soul singer.
She began singing as a child, performing with two New York based gospel groups when she was a teenager. In 1960, she signed with the small Nomar record label, who released the smooth soul ballad "All in My Mind" late in the year. The single became a hit, climbing to number two on the R&B charts (number 19 pop), and it was quickly followed by "Funny", which peaked at number three. Brown was poised to become a star, and she moved to ABC-Paramount in 1962, but left the label within a year and signed to the New York based, uptown soul label, Wand, in 1963.
Brown recorded her best work at Wand, having a string of moderate hits for the label over the next three years. Among these were the Carole King / Gerry Goffin song "Oh No Not My Baby", which reached number 24 on the pop charts; "It's Gonna Be Alright"; and several duets with Chuck Jackson. However, the label focused much of their attention on Dionne Warwick, leaving Maxine Brown to toil in semi-obscurity.
In 1969, she left Wand and signed first with Commonwealth United and then Avco Records, but her later recordings met with little commercial success. Despite her lack of hits, Brown is acknowledged as one of the finest R&B vocalists of her time, capable of delivering soul, jazz, and pop with equal aplomb.
2) Maxine Brown (April 27, 1931 – January 21, 2019) was an American country music singer who was originally a member of the successful 1950s trio the Browns, before a brief solo career.

Lovers may go
Steal your heart
And hurt you so
I find it's no disgrace
When the tears in your eyes
Roll down your eyes
What if, what if
What if I wipe your eyes
What if, what if
What if I share in your sighs
Would it be the same
Would it ease your pain
If I hurt inside, would it
Build your pride
And would you ask me
Oh, would you ask me
To please be your girl
(Come on, come on)
(Come on, come on)
Come on and ask me
(Come on, come on)
(Come on, come on)
Come on and ask me
Just because she
Broke your heart
Let me help you get
A brand new start
If I gave you my shoulder
To do all your crying on
If I stand by your side
Promise to never, never
Never leave you alone
Then would you ask me
Oh, would you ask me
To please be your girl
If I, if I wipe your eyes
If I, if I share in your sighs
Would it feel the same
Would it ease your pain
If I hurt inside
Would it build your pride
Oh, then would you ask me
Oh, would you ask me
To please be your girl
(Come on, come on)
(Come on, come on)
Come on and ask me
(Come on, come on)
(Come on, come on)
Come on and ask me...
The song "Ask Me" by Maxine Brown is a plea for love and recognition from a woman to a man who has been hurt before. The lyrics express the fear and vulnerability that come with opening oneself up to love and the possibility of being hurt again. The singer acknowledges that lovers may come and go, and that they can steal one's heart and cause pain. However, instead of being paralyzed by that fear, she offers herself as a potential source of comfort and support. She suggests that if the man were to ask her to be his girlfriend, she would be there for him through thick and thin, wiping away his tears and sharing in his pain.
The lyrics also tackle the concept of pride and how it can prevent people from asking for help or showing vulnerability. The singer asks if the man's pride would be built up if she were to hurt inside, suggesting that perhaps he would be more likely to ask for her help if he saw her as someone who was also vulnerable and human. Overall, the song emphasizes the importance of communication and vulnerability in relationships, and how asking for help or support can lead to deeper connections and healing.
