The lyrics of Melina Aslanidou's song "To Parelthon Mou" delve deep into themes of heartbreak, longing, and coming to terms with the past. The repeated plea in the chorus, "Το παρελθόν μου μη ρωτάσ" (Don't ask about my past), indicates a sense of pain and vulnerability associated with revisiting past memories. The singer expresses that their past is a wound that continues to hurt them, particularly on somber Sundays and painful evenings. The past is portrayed as a source of sorrow and emotional turmoil, with the singer bearing the consequences of their passionate love with tears.
The lyrics further speak to the idea that the secrets of the heart inevitably come to light. Those who are loved eventually leave, leaving the singer alone to grapple with these hidden truths. This sense of abandonment and solitude is palpable in the repetition of "Φεύγουν όσοι αγαπάς και μένεις μόνος" (Those you love leave and you remain alone). Despite the sweetness of tender glances, there is an underlying acknowledgment that pain accompanies love and relationships.
The singer pleads for the past not to resurface and reopen old wounds. The past is likened to a fire that the singer is trying to extinguish, emphasizing the struggle to move forward and let go of painful memories. The internal conflict between wanting to leave the past behind and being haunted by it is reflected in the lines, "Το παρελθόν μου μη μου ξυπνάς τον πόνο" (Don't awaken the pain within me).
In the final lines of the song, the repetition of "Της καρδιάς τα μυστικά τα πληρώνεις τελικά" (You eventually pay for the secrets of the heart) reinforces the idea that there is a price to pay for the vulnerabilities and emotions one carries within. The bitter truth that pain lingers even in the sweetest of moments is encapsulated in the poignant closure, "Άκρη μάτια μου γλυκά δεν έχει ο πόνος" (The pain has no sweet edges in my eyes). Overall, the lyrics of "To Parelthon Mou" paint a portrait of heartache, acceptance, and the constant struggle to reconcile with one's past.
