Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

Amori
Mia Martini Lyrics

Si fermano qui
Amori che vivono
Di un si
Amori che restano
Amori di un attimo
Il tempo di un brivido
E già, va via, così
Volere la vita o finire
Amori sublimi veleni
E vie lastricate di fiori
Amori spiragli blu
La forza di un volo in più
Di un volo in più
Amori, momenti
Nel mare del tempo
Parole nel vento
Amori
The song "Amori" by Mia Martini is a contemplative piece on the transience and ephemeral nature of love. The song starts off by observing that some loves are born and die quickly, while others are sustained by a single "yes." Some loves exist only for a moment, a tremble of the heart, before vanishing entirely. The song muses on the infinite varieties of love, from those that are two wings of the same sun, to those that can lead to either life or death. Martini sings of love as both sublime poison and a paved way of flowers, an intertwining of ecstasy and pain.
The lyrics of "Amori" also touch on the idea that love exists outside of our individual experience, as mere moments in an endless sea of time, and that the words we speak of love are carried off into a wind that whispers of all the loves that have come before and will come after. There is a sense of both wonder and resignation in the song, as if the singer is both awed by the infinite possibilities of love and knows that she cannot grasp, hold onto, or possess it.
Overall, "Amori" is a deeply thoughtful and philosophical rumination on the nature of romantic attachment, sung with such emotive skill and sincerity by Mia Martini that it feels like listening to the unburdening of a wise, loving soul.
