Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

Ancora Grande
Mia Martini Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Come un sacco vuoto
Fiore senza un prato
Come un 1ibro chiuso.
Io fantasia
Da dimenticare
Io malincollia
Piccolo dolore
La tua inutile mania
Comunque dentro te
Sempre.
Io in ogni pensiero io
In ogni respiro io
Ancora grande.
Si sempre presente
Si ancora importante oh si
Ancora più grande.
Io senza te
Come un lume spento
Cane abbandonato
Cucciolo ferito
Sarai la nostalgia
La mia1nutile mania
Comunque dentro me
Sempre.
Tu in ogni pensiero tu
In ogni respiro tu
Ancora grande.
Si sempre presente si
Ancora importante si
Ancora più grande
The song "Ancora Grande" by Mia Martini speaks about a deep and profound love between two people that have separated. The lyrics describe the feelings of both individuals after the breakup, highlighting their emptiness and pain. The first verse starts by comparing one of the lovers to a "sacco vuoto" (an empty sack), emphasizing their loneliness and feelings of abandonment. This verse also compares one of the lovers to a "fiore senza un prato" (a flower without a meadow) and a "libro chiuso" (a closed book) to express the lack of purpose and direction in their lives.
The second verse describes the other lover as "fantasia da dimenticare" (fantasy to forget) and "malinconia piccolo dolore" (melancholy and small pain). These lines suggest that although this person is no longer present in the other's life, they still hold a special place in their heart. The chorus then emphasizes the strong presence and importance of each other, even after separation. The lines "Io in ogni pensiero io, in ogni respiro io, ancora grande" (I am in every thought, in every breath, still great) and "Tu in ogni pensiero tu, in ogni respiro tu, ancora grande" (You are in every thought, in every breath, still great) highlight the intense feelings they still have for each other.
Overall, "Ancora Grande" is a poignant song about the enduring nature of love, even after separation.
