Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

La donna cannone
Mia Martini Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Uh
E senza fame e senza sete
E senza ali e senza rete voleremo via
E senza fame e senza sete
E senza ali e senza rete
E senza fame e senza sete
E senza ali e senza rete voleremo via
The lyrics of Mia Martini's song "Donna Fatta Donna" speak of a woman, referred to as the "donna cannone," who is determined to turn herself into a spectacle by shooting herself out of a cannon. The lyrics describe her transformation, as she becomes covered in gold and silver, and her ascent into the sky. The song also speaks of the woman's fearless determination to take risks, even if it means not being accepted for who she is.
The lyrics suggest that the woman's transformation is not simply physical, but also mental and emotional. She is not content to remain as she is, and is willing to take a leap of faith into the unknown. The imagery of the canon, which would carry her through the air, is a powerful one, suggesting a sense of wonder and awe at the possibilities of change and transformation.
Overall, the lyrics of "Donna Fatta Donna" are a powerful meditation on the power of self-transformation and self-actualization. They speak to the human desire for freedom and the ability to take risks, even in the face of great danger or uncertainty.

Grazie.
