Finding his voice in a school choir, Crawford began his professional career still a teenager. Having some luck on the London stage in the early 60s, he then found his way onto the BBC and starred in various programmes such as 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em'. He also had film roles in 'The War Lover', 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'. and 'How I Won the War' (which brought him into the same work as John Lennon).
Andrew Lloyd Webber's casting of him opposite Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton as the Phantom in 1986 shot his career into high gear. Winning a Tony Award for his role, Crawford also had the aforementioned tune, "The Music Of The Night", reach the British Top Ten. He has released several studio albums such as 'A Touch of Music in the Night' and 'On Eagle's Wings' among others.
Serenade in Blue
Michael Crawford Lyrics

I'm somewhere in another world, alone with you
Sharing all the joys we used to know
Many moons ago
Once again your face comes back to me
Just like the theme of some forgotten melody
In the album of my memory
It seems like only yesterday
The small cafe, a crowded floor
And as we danced the night away
I hear you say forever more
And then the song became a sigh
Forever more became goodbye
Cause you remained in my heart, but
Tell me darling in there still a spark?
Or only lonely ashes of the flame we knew
Should I go on whistling in the dark,
Serenade in blue
The lyrics of Michael Crawford's song Serenade in Blue are a reflection of a past love that still lingers in the memory of the singer. When I hear that Serenade in blue
Whenever I listen to that melody, Serenade in blue
I'm somewhere in another world, alone with you
I feel transported to another realm where I'm by your side
Sharing all the joys we used to know
Reliving all the happy moments we spent together before
Many moons ago
A long time back
Once again your face comes back to me
Your image appears before my eyes once more
Just like the theme of some forgotten melody
Just as a tune from the past that I've failed to remember
In the album of my memory
Kept safe in the archives of my thoughts and remembrances
Serenade in blue
The beautiful melody called Serenade in blue
It seems like only yesterday
It feels like it was just moments ago
The small cafe, a crowded floor
That tiny coffee joint, packed with people
And as we danced the night away
And we moved to the rhythm all through the night
I hear you say forever more
You promised me eternity
And then the song became a sigh
But later, that melody turned into a mournful noise
Forever more became goodbye
Your pledge of everlasting devotion changed to a farewell
Cause you remained in my heart, but
You still stay fresh in my love, but
Tell me darling in there still a spark?
Can you assure me that our love is still alive?
Or only lonely ashes of the flame we knew
Or is it now just a pile of unhappy and bitter memories?
Should I go on whistling in the dark,
Is it sensible to continue deceiving myself?
Serenade in blue
Even though I'll keep listening to Serenade in blue
