Michel Polnareff is one of the French music scene's more unconventional figures. He has a reputation for his wildly non-conformist lifestyle, but also made a name for himself with his legendary melodies.

The lyrics to Michel Polnareff's song "Ça n'arrive qu'aux autres" convey a sense of innocent joy and the harsh reality of loss. The singer describes a scene in which a small creature is playing in the garden, symbolizing the carefree nature of childhood. They hold the creature's head in their hand, indicating a close bond and a sense of tenderness. However, the lyrics also touch on the fragility of life, suggesting that the difference between having one more or one less bird in the garden is the heartache that comes with loss.
The song continues to explore the theme of loss and the impact it has on the singer's life. They mention that there was no school that morning, suggesting a disruption to their usual routine. Furthermore, they state that there will no longer be childhood in the garden, indicating a significant shift in their perception of the world. The lyrics again emphasize the difference between having one more or one less bird, lamenting the sorrow and grief that accompanies such a loss.
Despite the themes of loss and sadness, there is also a hint of hope and unity in the lyrics. The presence of a bird, representing a connection between the singer and someone else, is described as something shared, as they both come to the garden to eat bread. This suggests a shared experience, perhaps hinting at the idea that even in the face of loss, there can still be moments of connection and solace.
