Twenty Thousand Leagues
Midnight Juggernauts Lyrics

High up above
So far, so good
Twenty thousand
Leagues down below
So far, so good
Day by day, calling out
Day by day, calling out
Calling out to you
Day by day, calling out
Calling out to you
Day by day, calling out
Calling out to you
Watching over
Dropped from above
So far, so good
Falling under
Deep down below
So far, so good
Day by day, calling out
Calling out to you
Day by day, calling out
Calling out to you
Day by day, calling out
Calling out to you
Day by day, calling out
Calling out to you
The lyrics to Midnight Juggernauts' song "Twenty Thousand Leagues" have an ambiguous interpretation. It's about someone who is floating and watching over everything from above, but then also falling deep down below. It's almost as if the lyrics are describing someone who is soaring so high that they are touching the limits of the universe, but then suddenly plummeting back down to Earth. The phrase twenty thousand leagues references the distance that the main characters in Jules Verne's novel "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" travelled beneath the ocean's surface.
The repetition of "so far, so good" emphasises the uncertainty of this journey - it might be going well now, but who knows where it will end up? The singer is calling out to someone, perhaps for help or guidance, over and over again. The lyrics suggest a sense of isolation and confusion; the person is up in the skies and then under the sea, so the imagery doesn't have a clear sense of direction.
The music video for "Twenty Thousand Leagues" features stunning landscapes in Iceland, with the band members driving through the Icelandic countryside. The visuals appear to reflect the journey described in the lyrics. The video was directed by Krozm, an Australian creative arts company famous for their fantastical and surreal music videos.
