Marauder Music

I wasn't supposed to be a star
And no one ever told me
There'd be nights like these, no
I just wanna smoke with my
Friends in the park like we used to
Now I'm drivin' down Melrose
Shit is really kinda feeling like a hell-hole
Where did all my friends go?
Tell me, where did all my friends go?
This is what you listen to in the Marauder
Uh
When you don't give a fuck about anything
Yeah
This is what you listen to in the Marauder
This is the soundtrack to the game, game
Game
Ah, ah, ah ah ah ah, ah, ah ah ah
I don't need a Rolls Royce or a Bentley, no
Naw 'Cause none of my heroes had those
I wonder if I'm s'posed to do
Like them and die young, oh
'Cause now I'm someone else's hero
(I drive slow) And now I'm
Drivin' through my hometown
The one that every time I go
I always hold down (Every show)
And now it's feelin' like a ghost town
Why's it feeling like a ghost town? (Woo)
This is what you listen to in the Marauder
(In the Marauder) , yeah
When you don't give a fuck about anything
Anything
This is what you listen to in the Marauder
(In the Marauder) , uh
This is the soundtrack to the game, game
Game (Oh, yeah)
Yeah, Marauder music
Fuck a Maybach (soundtrack to the game)
Uh, oh, hey
This is what you listen to in the Marauder
(in the Marauder) , yeah
When you don't give a fuck about
Anything, uh uh, uh uh, yeah
This is what you listen to in
The Marauder, in the Marauder, yeah
This is the soundtrack to
The game, game, game, yeah
Oh in the Marauder
Anything, no no (ooh) in the Marauder (oh)
Alright (ah, ah, ah ah ah)
In "Marauder Music," Mike Posner expresses his indifference towards fame and his longing for simpler times with his friends. He starts the song by stating that he does not care about being famous, as he never intended to become a star. He reflects on the fact that nobody prepared him for the difficult nights that come along with fame. Instead, he just wants to enjoy the company of his friends and reminisce about the past when they used to hang out and smoke in the park.
As he drives down Melrose, a street in Los Angeles known for its luxury and glitz, Posner describes the feeling of it being a "hell-hole." He feels lost and wonders where all his friends have gone. This line could also represent the emptiness and superficiality that can be associated with fame and material wealth. He questions whether the pursuit of fame is worth sacrificing his genuine friendships and connections.
Posner then explores the idea of success and how it is commonly portrayed in society. He mentions that he doesn't desire expensive cars like Rolls Royces or Bentleys, as his heroes never had them either. He wonders if he is supposed to follow in their footsteps and die young, sacrificing his own well-being for fame. He reflects on how his hometown, where he performs concerts and holds down the fort, now feels like a ghost town. This could symbolize the feeling of alienation and disconnect that can come from fame and constantly being on the road.
Throughout the song, Posner reflects on what truly matters to him, which is authentic human connection and meaningful experiences rather than materialistic pursuits. "Marauder Music" serves as a reminder to himself and his listeners that sometimes fame and success can be isolating and hollow, and it's important to stay true to one's values and maintain genuine relationships. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the notion that the song acts as a soundtrack for those who have grown disillusioned with the superficiality of the fame game.
