What I want you to remember is to take care of yourself first
That you can stop doing this if you want
If it's not working out for you
It's just too hard, or if you just decide it's too much
You can take longer if you wan't, you can do it and stop
The lyrics of Mike Posner's song "Sage Wisdom From Mom" encapsulate the meaningful advice and support imparted by a mother to her son. Through these lyrics, we witness the genuine concern and love a mother has for her child. The first paragraph begins with a warm greeting, where the mother addresses her son by his name, Michael. This signifies their close bond, setting the stage for the forthcoming words of wisdom.
The mother emphasizes the importance of self-care, reminding Michael that he should prioritize his own well-being. By highlighting the significance of taking care of oneself first, she encourages him to establish a foundation of self-love and self-preservation. This advice implies that when one takes care of their own needs, they are better equipped to navigate life's challenges and support others around them.
In the second paragraph, the mother assures Michael that he has the power to make choices. She acknowledges that there may come a time when the current path he is on might not be working out for him. The use of phrases such as "stop doing this if you want" and "if it's too hard" acknowledges the reality that sometimes circumstances may become overwhelming. By giving him permission to assess and reassess his situation, she encourages him to make decisions aligned with his happiness and well-being, even if it means letting go of something that may have seemed important.
In the third paragraph, the mother recognizes the weight of external pressures and responsibilities by acknowledging that life can become too much to handle. This serves as a reminder that it's essential to recognize and honor one's own limits. By giving her son the freedom to decide that something is too much for him, she affirms that his mental and emotional health should always take precedence.
The final paragraph concludes with the message that Michael has the agency to determine the pace of his journey. The mother tells him that he can take longer if he wants, but more significantly, she assures him that he has the capability to both continue and stop. By emphasizing his power to control the timing of his progress, she imparts a sense of autonomy that allows him to take charge of his own growth and development.
Overall, the lyrics to "Sage Wisdom From Mom" resonate with the deep love and understanding a mother has for her child. Through warmth, support, and encouragement, she provides invaluable guidance, reminding her son of the significance of self-care, the power of choice, and the freedom to navigate one's own journey.
