Both of her parents are private investigators, but father Rick is also a country guitarist and songwriter. Lambert became seriously interested in country music after attending a Garth Brooks concert as a young girl, and soon began singing in talent contests under the tutelage of her father.
At 16, Miranda began appearing on the Johnny High Country Music Review in Arlington, Texas, the same show that helped launch the career of LeAnn Rimes. Miranda quickly landed a recording session in Nashville, but left the studio in tears after she became frustrated with the "pop" sound of music that was not her own. Upon returning to Texas, Miranda began writing songs and taking guitar lessons from her father.
When Miranda's aptitude for music became apparent, her parents encouraged her to aggressively pursue singing and acting opportunities. While still a high school student, Miranda made her professional singing debut and fronted the house band at the Reo Palm Isle Ballroom in Longview, Texas, a long-running venue that has showcased Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson.
Foregoing college, Miranda performed throughout Texas in 2001 and 2002. She finished first in the Texas auditions for Nashville Star and eventually placed third on the national competition.

Pushin' Time
Miranda Lambert Lyrics

'Cause already dread the end
Lonely ain't no place to start
I guess thats just where we are
Oh, how I remember well
The sunset on September 12th
I disappeared to get a drink
You still kept your eyes on me
Sometimes love acts out of spite
And good things happen over night
Can't take it slow 'cause you and I are pushin' time
I didn't plan on falling fast
I didn't know I could be kissed like that
Now I'm trading miles for minutes
This bed's too big without you in it
Sometimes love acts out of spite
And good things happen over night
Can't take it slow 'cause you and I are pushin' time
You and I are pushin' time
And they say only time can tell
You already know me well
If it has to end in tears
I hope it's in 60 years
Sometimes love acts out of spite
And good things happen over night
Can't take it slow 'cause you and I are pushin' time
Can't take it slow 'cause you and I are pushin' time
Miranda Lambert's song Pushin' Time is about the fear of falling in love too quickly and the uncertainty that comes with it. The lyrics suggest that the singer is already anticipating the end of the relationship, but she can't help but feel a strong connection to her partner. The song begins with a question, wondering if they are foolish for diving headfirst into this romance. The singer acknowledges that feeling lonely is not a good place to start a relationship, but that's where they find themselves. They met on September 12th and have been together since, although the singer did not plan on falling in love so fast.
The chorus is all about the rush that comes with love. It's clear that the singer and her partner are moving quickly, but they can't help it. They're "pushin' time," meaning they're ignoring the idea of taking things slow because they're so in love. They recognize that sometimes things happen quickly and unexpectedly, and that can be a good thing. However, the singer is left missing her partner when they're not together, and she's trading miles for minutes because time goes by too fast when they're apart.
The lyrics show a realism about relationships that sometimes love can be spiteful, but good things can come out of it. It goes to show that nothing is guaranteed, but living in the moment and cherishing every moment together is what truly matters. The chorus ends with the singer hoping the relationship lasts for 60 years and it's alright if it ends in tears. She wants to enjoy the moments they share and leave the future to chance.
