Moby found commercial and critical success with his fifth album Play (1999), which, after receiving little recognition, became an unexpected global hit in 2000 after each track was licensed to films, television shows, and commercials. It remains his highest selling album with 12 million copies sold. Its seventh single, "South Side", featuring Gwen Stefani, remains his only one to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 14. Moby followed Play with albums of varied styles including electronic, dance, rock, and downtempo music, starting with 18 (2002), Hotel (2005), and Last Night (2008). His later albums saw him explore ambient music, including the almost four-hour release Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep. (2016). Moby continues to record and release albums; his twenty-first studio album, Resound NYC, was released in May 2023.
In addition to his music career, Moby is known for his veganism and support for animal rights and humanitarian aid. He was the owner of TeaNY, a vegan cafe in Manhattan, and Little Pine, a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles, and organized the vegan music and food festival Circle V. He is the author of four books, including a collection of his photography and two memoirs: Porcelain: A Memoir (2016) and Then It Fell Apart (2019).

Moby Lyrics

C'mon!
We can make it!
We can make it!
We can make it!
We can make it!
Yeah, everything'll be alright
Yeah, everything'll be alright
Yeah, everything'll be alright
Yeah, everything'll be alright
C'mon!
Yeah, everything'll be alright
Yeah, everything'll be alright
Yeah, everything'll be alright
Yeah, everything'll be alright
Yeah, everything'll be alright
At face value, the lyrics to Moby's song "Everything" are simple and repetitive. The repetition of "everything will be alright" is a mantra-like affirmation that things will work out in the end. The use of the word "we" in the song encourages a sense of communal unity and perseverance, which can be interpreted as a call to action for listeners to work together to overcome any obstacles they may face.
However, the interesting aspect of the song's lyrics lies in the context of the album it is featured on, "Destroyed." Moby wrote "Destroyed" during a period of time in which he was struggling with mental health issues, including anxiety and depression. The album is meant to chronicle the experiences he had while touring, including feelings of isolation and detachment from his surroundings. Given this context, the lyrics to "Everything" take on a deeper meaning. They stand as a testament to Moby's innermost desire to believe that everything will be alright, and serve as a means of healing and hope for listeners who may be going through similar struggles.
In addition to its powerful message, "Everything" also features a unique sound. Moby makes use of a variety of electronic instruments to create an otherworldly soundscape, filled with distorted vocals, pulsing synths, and driving percussion. The result is a track that feels simultaneously futuristic and nostalgic, as it fuses elements of both modern electronic music and classic punk rock.
