Moby found commercial and critical success with his fifth album Play (1999), which, after receiving little recognition, became an unexpected global hit in 2000 after each track was licensed to films, television shows, and commercials. It remains his highest selling album with 12 million copies sold. Its seventh single, "South Side", featuring Gwen Stefani, remains his only one to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 14. Moby followed Play with albums of varied styles including electronic, dance, rock, and downtempo music, starting with 18 (2002), Hotel (2005), and Last Night (2008). His later albums saw him explore ambient music, including the almost four-hour release Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep. (2016). Moby continues to record and release albums; his twenty-first studio album, Resound NYC, was released in May 2023.
In addition to his music career, Moby is known for his veganism and support for animal rights and humanitarian aid. He was the owner of TeaNY, a vegan cafe in Manhattan, and Little Pine, a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles, and organized the vegan music and food festival Circle V. He is the author of four books, including a collection of his photography and two memoirs: Porcelain: A Memoir (2016) and Then It Fell Apart (2019).

Wait For Me
Moby Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I love my hands, but it hurts to pray
Life I have isn't what I've seen
The sky is not blue and the field's not green
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
Mhmm wait, wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
I'm gonna ask you to look away
A broken life will never stay
Tried to hard and I always lay
Days are gray
And nights are black
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
The lyrics of Moby's "Wait for Me" are both melancholic and powerful. The opening lines of the song, "I'm gonna ask you to look away, I love my hands, but it hurts to pray" reveal the artist's internal struggle with his faith, something that he has cherished but finds difficult to hold onto in such an imperfect world. The line, "Life I have isn't what I've seen, the sky is not blue and the field's not green," is an expression of disillusionment with the world around him. He is starting to realize that the world is full of pain, disappointment, and suffering which he did not expect earlier when he had seen it from a different perspective.
The chorus of the song "Wait for Me," is a plea for a constant and reliable presence in the artist's life. The artist has gone through many disappointments, and his experiences have left him feeling isolated, disconnected from the world. He needs a connection, something constant that can hold him up in times of despair. The choice of the word "wait" shows that the person is not trying to run away or ignore the problems, but to hold on and wait for a solution. The last verse, "A broken life will never stay; Tried too hard, and I always lay; Days are gray, and nights are black" puts forth the picture of someone who is trying to put his broken life back together but is facing many failures in doing so.
