1) a Canadi… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least four acts that have used the name Moist:
1) a Canadian alternative rock band,
2) a Swedish electronic pop project,
3) an Indonesian shoegaze band, and
4) an Australian industrial duo.
1) Moist is a five-piece Canadian alternative rock band that was popular in the mid-to-late-1990s. The band is led by singer David Usher. Other members of the band are Mark Makoway (guitars), Francis Fillion (drums), Louis Lalancette (bass), Jonathan Gallivan (guitars) and Kevin Young (keyboards). Former members include Jeff Pearce (bass) and Paul Wilcox (drums).
Moist formed in the early 1990s and eventually released an independent cassette in 1993. The cassette caught the attention of EMI, who released their first full-length studio CD, Silver, in 1994. Producer Terry Brown (Rush, Blue Rodeo) was brought in to work on a few of the band's songs, and the album went on to sell 400,000 copies in Canada on the strength of hard-hitting singles like Push, Silver and Believe Me. The follow up, Creature, was released in 1996 to even greater success, with the band's sound maturing and fostering its softer side. A final studio album titled Mercedes 5 and Dime was released in 1999 which was softer and more melancholic than previous releases.
Moist have called off their indefinite hiatus as of September 2013, and released their new single "Mechanical" on May 23rd, 2014.
2) After a life-long love affair with music, songwriter and producer, David Elfström Lilja, began releasing his own music under the name Moist in 2008. In Moist, he began his dream project, in which he writes, produces and play most instruments. His sound can be found on numerous remixes and in collaborations with different vocal artists such as Maria Marcus, Sophie Rimheden and Kana Otsubo. His most recent work with hits like "On And On" and "Release Me" by Agnes, are enjoying heavy rotation on European radio stations. He just finished the single, “Far Beyond The Endless,” with Maria Marcus and writing and producing a track with the Japanese singer and keyboardist, Kana Otsubo, of Spangle Call Lilli Line, which will appear on Moist’s album due at the end 2009, early 2010.

Resurrection
Moist Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Still I'm wishing I could stay
But I'm sorry my old friend
I've got to leave you once again
And despite what I might say
I measure pleasure by the pain
Measure pleasure by the twisting
Of the metal in vein
Can't be more than what we are
Can't be more 'til it's over
Here comes the resurrection
Everybody's got to die from something
Nothing ever left to leave you when you go
I saw you strip my babies
Animal the way you cut them might be
Animal the way I cut you from below
So you goad me into spite
It's the cruelty that you'd like
It's the waiting for the one thing
That you never could define
Fill the longing just because
Emasculate the ones you love
Have to wait 'til it's over
We are the less than mighty
Never was a way I thought it could be
Never quite enough to leave you when you go
I saw you strip my babies
Animal the way you cut them might be
Animal the way I cut you from below
I've been drowned out by the rain
Still I'm wishing I could stay
But I'm sorry my old friend
I've got to leave you once again
And despite what I might say
I measure pleasure by the pain
Measure pleasure by the twisting
Of the metal in the vein
And it might be very hard
Can't be more than what we are
Can't be more when it's over
Here comes the resurrection
Everybody's got to die for something
Never thought I'd have to leave you when you go
I saw you strip my babies
Animal the way you cut them might be
Animal the way I cut you from below
And if anger is the ending
Of the thing that we've become
For the mother and the father
And the sister and the son
Through the shallow without wanting
Realization to mistake
Through the ugliness
The open all the things we can't replace
I will control
The song Resurrection by Moist is a powerful and emotional piece about the struggle of life and the inevitability of death. The lyrics describe a sense of feeling drowned out by the rain, but still wishing to stay. However, the singer realizes they must leave once again, which is where the theme of resurrection comes in. Here, the lyrics suggest everyone must die from something, and ultimately, there is nothing left to leave behind when we go.
Further, the lyrics hint at a deep sense of pain and pleasure, as well as the realization that life can be cruel. Amid the cruelty, the singer struggles to find meaning, love, and experiences of pleasure that they measure by the pain they endure. The lyrics showcase a journey of realization that we are all less than mighty, and there was never a way it could be any other way. The final lines of the song suggest that even in the face of ugliness and the things we cannot replace, the singer will control themselves.
In summary, the lyrics of Moist's Resurrection describe the complex journey of life, the inevitability of death, and the search for meaning and pleasure in the face of pain and cruelty.

I've been drowned out by the rain
I've been overwhelmed by sadness and despair
Still I'm wishing I could stay
Despite my sadness, I still wish I could stay in this moment
But I'm sorry my old friend
I'm sorry but I must leave you
I've got to leave you once again
I must depart from you once more
And despite what I might say
Even if I say otherwise
I measure pleasure by the pain
I only feel pleasure when it is accompanied by pain
Measure pleasure by the twisting
My pleasure is measured by the intensity of my suffering
Of the metal in vein
of the physical pain that I experience
And it might be very hard
This may be very difficult
Can't be more than what we are
We cannot be more than who we are
Can't be more 'til it's over
We cannot change until it is all over
Here comes the resurrection
The rebirth or renewal is coming
Everybody's got to die from something
Everyone will die from some cause eventually
Nothing ever left to leave you when you go
There is nothing to take with you when you die
I saw you strip my babies
I witnessed you harm my loved ones
Animal the way you cut them might be
The way you hurt them is inhumane
Animal the way I cut you from below
I may have hurt you the same way you hurt me
So you goad me into spite
You provoke me to act with malice
It's the cruelty that you'd like
You enjoy being cruel and hurtful
It's the waiting for the one thing
You are waiting for something to happen
That you never could define
You cannot explain what you are waiting for
Fill the longing just because
You fulfill your longing for cruelty simply for the sake of it
Emasculate the ones you love
You hurt and undermine the people you love
Have to wait 'til it's over
We must wait until the end
We are the less than mighty
We are weak and insignificant
Never was a way I thought it could be
Things did not turn out as I expected
Never quite enough to leave you when you go
It's never quite enough to leave someone when they die
And if anger is the ending
If anger is the final outcome
Of the thing that we've become
Of what we have turned into
For the mother and the father
For the parents
And the sister and the son
And for siblings and children
Through the shallow without wanting
Enduring the superficial aspects of life without desiring it
Realization to mistake
Recognizing a mistake too late
Through the ugliness
Despite the difficulties
The open all the things we can't replace
We cannot replace the things that have been lost
I will control
I will take control of the situation

Moist is amazing. This song was an anthem for me as a young woman in the 90s. Who doesn’t need the hair to stand up on the back of their neck as they hear David Usher’s voice, and the beat of the drums in their own pulse… and feel the sting of the guitars in your ears and eyes. They don’t make rock like this anymore.

Yeah totally

I was a teen in the 90s as well and was a huge Moist fan. There has always been something undeniably sexy about David Usher's voice, both with Moist or solo.

No. You're amazing! *Plays with my white shell necklace.

Almost 37 years old. And this song not only brings me back, but means more to me know since I understand lyrics a lot better then when was a kid in the 90s

I've always loved the song and video since I experienced them back in the 90's. But I never appreciated, until now, how seamless this video really is, with the seemingly infinite tracking shot, and the perfectly blended cuts.
