I love this movie! 😄 When I first saw this trailer, I thought maybe it'd be a little too disturbing but, when I heard from a reliable source that this was actually a really good movie, I decided to give it a watch after all. And since then, it's been one of my all time favorite Disney films. I watch it around Halloween every year. It's so awesome. Plus, it proves that Disney is NOT all sunshine, songbirds, and pretty princesses. It can have a darker, edgier side as well.

Disney had a handful of really dark films in the early-mid 80's. "Something Wicked This Way Comes"......."Return to Oz"......."Watcher in the Woods"........"The Black Cauldron"..... While one or two of them were far from perfect, they were a lot more creative and entertaining than movies like "High School Musical" in my opinion.

This movie was brilliant. It certainly creeped the bejezuz out of me as a kid. Particularly the spiders scene. I think this was probably my first introduction to the horror and suspense genre.

Same here... born in 1975 and this movie was WAY scarier than the trailer lets on. It was made back when horror and psychological thrillers were based on really good books that would scare the shit out of you in their own right. It's not one of those zombie/vampire campy slapstick-ish flicks, it really plays on all those primordial psychological fears and trepidations that nearly everyone harbors on some level, young and old. A truly underrated flick.

“Something Wicked this Way Comes” is interesting for a number of reasons. Firstly, it was directed by one of UK’s finest, yet underrated film-makers of the 20th century, Jack Clayton. Clayton made only one other film in the US; perhaps the finest version of, “The Great Gatsby” (1974).

Secondly, “Something Wicked this Way Comes” was written by celebrated Sci Fi/ Fantasy writer Ray Bradbury. Arguably, either Bradbury or Disney were influenced by George Pal’s film, “7 Faces of Dr. Lao” (1964), based on the novel, “The Circus of Dr. Lao” (1935) by Charles G. Finney (or the post WW2 moral fantasies of US a screenwriter, Richard Matheson).

During production Clayton fell out with Bradbury over uncredited script rewrites (something Disney had called for). And characteristically, Disney were less than happy with Clayton’s final cut. Consequently, over many months and at some expense, the film was effectively re-shot and re-scored by Disney. If the film seems neither effective adult or children’s entertainment, one reason may be that Disney simply didn’t know how to realise the screenwriter, and director’s vision.

I was 4 or 5 when I first saw this movie, and the tarantula in the bedroom scene was the scariest part for me. lol That scene stuck with me up until now, at age 30. I just showed the movie to my 5 year old and she said she loved the movie but that scene creeped her out too lol

I am here tonight to rewatch this trailer. Last year, I saw it and wanted to watch the movie. I pretty much abandoned that idea before I remembered it this year, when I discovered that it was based on a book written by no one other than Ray Bradbury, whom I had never read before. I must say that the book was very great. I am here to watch this trailer for the memory of the beginning of it all. Soon, I shall watch the movie too. I hope it lives up to my expectations.

This has always been creepy. I first saw at least half or all this movie over a decade ago at a hospital waiting room when my friend was having her first child. I had never heard of it or remember it as a child. I was like what in the world? Weird transformations etc. Reminds me of a creepier, darker version of Eerie Indiana.

Yes. A producer acquaintance of mine told me that there was a lot of second unit work that was re-shot, and that the production even shut down in mid-schedule. (You can see difference in Will and Jim's ages when comparing the "spider scene" with the opening scenes -- the kids were growing fast, as kids will do.) I think you're right about Horner coming in late. The trailer was used before they figured out what to do with what they had (and still needed) in Post.

I saw this in the theatre when it came out. Just watched it with 2 of my kids tonight. An amazing film. Yes, my 9 year old got scared. I imagine that this might be remade with Johnny Depp as Mr. dark…. but I hope not. Please just leave the original alone.

I watched this movie at my geology class before spring break comes. While I watching the movie with both carousel and carnival scenes in the movie, the song "Carousel" by Melanie Martinez played inside my head and I was like OMG. I would say this song fits perfectly through the movie.

I've never seen this but I've read the book a couple of times over the years. Looks well-cast and well-acted but the trailer doesn't really get me excited to watch it. The book is pretty exciting and lots of cool/magical scenes but the trailer is just people talking.

Back in 1984, my grade 4 teacher showed us this movie as well! We also watched, "Raiders of the Lost Ark." I was creeped out by both movies, but loved her for allowing us to watch those movies at school!

This looks like an aweosme movie! I loved the book, but I had no idea this existed until recently! Once again, it has been proven that a movie does not need to have super expensively exaggerated special effetcs in order to be great. The acting is amazing, if you ask me, and the story in itself more than makes up for the lack of computer-made effects.

Wow. I forgot this movie existed! I was traumatized as a child after seeing this movie. I'd like to watch it again to see if its still scary. All I remember is spiders under the bed covers, then on the door handle (!!!), some scary woman in black, and the blood dripping on that kids face.

I first saw this movie when I was 13. It scared me off of carnivals ever since. I don't go to them & never let my son go. People think I'm nuts when I say carnivals are evil. This movie just did something to me that changed me inside forever. Scared the bejesus out of me too! Lol!

HOLY GOOD GOD is this movie freaky. I saw it my freshman year in highschool and one of the girls was having a crying fit and had to leave the room. I found myself screaming at the villain because he scared me and pissed me off at the same time. And it's by Disney! D-I-S-N-E-Y! For those that think that the mouse only makes family friendly works, you are in for a rude awakening.

This is probably a good example of something that was too ahead of this time...especially when there WAS CGI used in it originally, but it wasn't perfected in the early '80s...and how incredibly dark it is, although maybe Disney's Double Dares You brand could do a remake, and have Jonathan Pryce as the father in it...maybe Michael Sheen as the sinister ringmaster...

Dude, you know you could get "Drop Dead Fred" through Amazon UK for $5 new and sealed in anamorphic widescreen. The US DVD is in full-screen and is not worth that high of a price, haha. Get the Universal UK DVD (it's region-2, but there are too many ways to play a British DVD in the US).

Read the (fairly short) Wikipedia article about the movie, and under "Production" it will explain what happened with the trailer, the music, etc. They had a problem with Jack Clayton & Bradbury not getting along.
