Confession
My Epic Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Young men emphatic with their "always" and "nevers"
And the rich men emboldened by successful endeavors
And the strong man is armored
they all think they are safe
But they all rot the same
When they lay in their graves

It's all nothing

I don’t wanna find my life cause You say that's a deadly thing
I know every time I try I always end up losing everything
So Father help me lose myself cause there are parts of me still holding on
Just hide me in Your steps and lead me to the end
You’re all that I need, all that I got, all that I want

And in the end may I die as the thief
My greatest joy that You'd hang there with me
Blessed further still if my flesh could be made an object of grace
To walk behind, to die beside, then wake to find
My Lord, my love in paradise

So I’ll boast in my weakness, You alone are my treasure
My life for You master, pour it out at Your pleasure
Rage hell!
Come death!
But still I’ll dwell with you for all my days
And there is nothing that can separate
Yeah there is nothing, nothing, nothing

And in the end l will die as a thief
My greatest joy that You hang here with me
Blessed further still that my flesh has been made an object of grace

To walk behind, to die beside, and wake to find
My Lord, my love in paradise

Overall Meaning

The song "Confession" by My Epic talks about the human tendency to hold on to things that are ultimately nothing, and the desire to lose oneself in order to find true meaning in life. The lyrics suggests that all men, whether they are young, rich, or strong, will end up in the same place - the grave. The idea of losing oneself is expressed through the line "I don't wanna find my life cause You say that's a deadly thing", indicating that the search for personal fulfillment can lead to destruction. The singer then acknowledges their own tendency to lose everything whenever they try to find their own path, and asks for divine assistance to surrender completely to God.

The focus then shifts to the Christian belief of eternal life and salvation, with the singer expressing a desire to die as the thief who was next to Jesus on the cross. This could be seen as a willingness to accept one's own mistakes and sins, and to simply ask for mercy and grace. The idea of being an "object of grace" means that even a flawed and imperfect person can still find redemption and walk beside God in the afterlife. The final lines of the song emphasizes the singer's faith and commitment, no matter what trials and challenges they may face.
