Remember that too
Little Lotte thought: am I fonder of dolls
Or of goblins or shoes?
Or of riddles of frocks?
Those picnics in the attic
Father playing the violin
As we read to each other dark stories of the North
No, what I love best, Lotte said
Is when I'm asleep in my bed
And the Angel of Music sings songs in my head!
The Angel of Music sings songs in my head!
Insolent boy!
This slave of fashion
Basking in your glory!
Ignorant fool!
This brave young suitor
Sharing in my triumph!
Angel, I hear you!
Speak, I listen
Stay by my side, guide me!
Angel, my soul was weak
Forgive me
Enter at last, Master!
Flattering child, you shall know me
See why in shadow I hide
Look at your face in the mirror
I am there inside!
Angel of Music
Guide and guardian
Grant to me your glory
Angel of Music
Hide no longer
Come to me, strange angel
I am your angel
Come to me: Angel of Music
Whose is that voice?
Who is that in there?
I am your Angel of Music
Come to me: Angel of Music
Christine, angel!
The lyrics to the song "Little Lotte / The Mirror" from the musical "The Phantom of the Opera" tell the story of a young girl named Lotte. As she lets her mind wander, we see her contemplating the things she loves most - dolls, goblins, shoes, riddles, picnics in the attic, and chocolates. But what she loves best is when she's asleep in her bed, and the Angel of Music sings songs in her head. It's a beautiful moment that shows us how powerful and transformative music can be.
The second half of the song brings in another character, the Phantom. He is angry with someone - an insolent boy who's basking in his glory, an ignorant fool who's daring to share in his triumph. But when Lotte calls out for the Angel of Music, the Phantom responds. He tells her that he is her angel, and he asks her to come to him. The song ends with Lotte calling out his name - "Christine, angel!" - as she begins to succumb to his influence and charisma.

Lyrics:
Give me somebody to dance for,
Give me somebody to show.
Let me wake up in the morning to find
I have somewhere exciting to go.
To have something that I can believe in.
To have something to be.
Use me... Choose me.
God, I'm a dancer,
A dancer dances!
Give me somebody to dance with.
Give me a place to fit in.
Help me return to the world of the living
By showing me how to begin.
Play the music.
Give me the chance to come through.
All I ever needed was the music, and the mirror,
And the chance to dance for you.
Give me a job and you instantly get me involved.
If you give me a job,
Then the rest of the cr*p will get solved.
Put me to work,
You would think that by now I'm allowed.
I'll do you proud.
Throw me a rope to grab on to.
Helpome to prove that I'm strong.
Give me the chance to look forward to sayin':
"Hey. listen, they're playing my song."
Play me the music.
Give me the chance to come through.
All I ever needed was the music, and the mirror,
And the chance to dance...
Play me the music,
Play me the music,
Play me the music.
Give me the chance to come through.
All I ever needed was the music, and the mirror,
And the chance to dance...

I grew up listening to this soundtrack, but it took me until recently to see the show for the first time. I always thought this was the most eerie song on the soundtrack. Now that I know the scene, I now find it twice as eerie.

***** There IS something very haunting about this song... beautiful but haunting
Mama Ames
It's not only inexplicable, but mercilessly unforgivable that of ALL the songs from the original Broadway Score, they actually chose
to cut THIS exquisite song from Hollywood's HIDEOUS, DISASTROUS film "A Chorus Line," starring... wait for it... Michael Douglas! Seriously??? (A great actor. But AWFUL casting.) Its no surprise the film was an EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHPIC FAILURE.
Hidden Charm
@Mama Ames agree… but that movie is that introduced me to A Chorus Line and for that it will always hold a special place in my heart ❤️

I love the passion in this song. So much fun to sing. I'd dance but no one wants to see that! lol
