Lasso
PhoenixȀ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where would you go?
Not long ago
I've been thinking out loud
Why so suddenly?
Don't you know?
Don't do it
What you do
Oh what you do to me

Forever is a long long time
When you've lost your way
Trying to follow your ideal
Oh sorry but your so called life
It is such a waste

Wear your real eyes
No you don't realize
What you say yes to
But you say yes too

Where would you go
Where would you go
With a lasso?
Could you run into
Could you run into
Could you go and run into me?

So lonely so pretty such a lack of diplomacy
You can't get out
Don't you know don't do it
What you do well you should do to me
Far-out, so far-out
Such a fall-out
Not only that you're lonely
Don't matter if you're not so well
No you're not so well

Where would you go
Where would you go
With a lasso?
Could you run into
Could you run into
Could you go and run into me?

Tomorrow is a long long time
When you've lost your way

Tomorrow is a long long time
When you've lost your way

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Phoenix's song Lasso are about feeling lost and alone, and trying to find a way to reconnect with someone who has drifted away. The opening lines "Where would you go? Not long ago, I've been thinking out loud" set the tone for the rest of the song. The singer is addressing someone who has left or is considering leaving, and is questioning where they would go or why they would leave. They ask "Why so suddenly? Don't you know? Don't do it, what you do, oh what you do to me" suggesting that the other person's actions are having a profound effect on them.

The chorus then brings in the metaphor of a lasso as a way of trying to draw the other person back in. The singer is asking if the other person could "run into" them with a lasso, essentially asking them to come back to them. The line "Wear your real eyes, no you don't realize what you say yes to, but you say yes too" suggests that the other person is perhaps not being true to themselves, and is going along with something they aren't fully committed to.

The second verse begins with the line "Forever is a long long time when you've lost your way, trying to follow your ideal". This line highlights the theme of feeling lost, and suggests that the other person may be struggling to find their place in the world. The line "Oh sorry but your so-called life, it is such a waste" suggests that the singer sees potential in the other person, but they are wasting it by leaving or not fully committing to their choices.

Overall, the lyrics of Lasso are about the struggle to connect with others, and the pain and loneliness that can come with feeling disconnected. The lasso metaphor serves as a symbol of the singer's desire to bring the other person back into their life, and the chorus repeats the question, "Where would you go with a lasso? Could you run into me?" as a plea for them to return.

Tus labios rojos, tus lindos ojos

Aunque lo he intentado nunca te pude olvidar
Yo pensé que un día tú regresarías
Siempre me decías
(Oh regresa)

Aunque lo he intentado tú no regresas

Aunque lo he intentado tú no regresas

Aunque lo he intentado tú no regresas

@lissemartigarcia
