Sera di Gallipoli
Pierangelo Bertoli Lyrics

un volto senza sesso e senza età;
amici, amici miei, dev'essere così
scorderemo il nostro stare insieme di adesso.
The lyrics of Pierangelo Bertoli's song "Sera di Gallipoli" reflect on the fleeting nature of time and the transience of human experiences. The song starts with the singer recounting how their Sunday passed by, spent by the sea and the rocks until the sun decided to set. The salt of the sea is still on their skin as they wander around the streets of Gallipoli, feeling a sense of freedom that only comes from being in a place where they can just be themselves, surrounded by the old white walls that guard the town.
The next verse describes the fishermen's harbor and the poor people who grow old on the doorstep of their one-room houses, raising the question of what will become of their togetherness. The singer asks when their waiting will end and when they will start their journey in search of the moon, with their shoulders bent and without a single word to say. The final verse is about barefoot children playing football on the streets, growing up just to leave that place, wondering when it will be their turn to go and when they will begin their quest for the moon. A face appears at a window, faceless and ageless, and the song ends with the realization that they will forget about their present togetherness, discarding it like a memory.

Così è passata la domenica
The Sunday has gone by like this
sul mare sugli scogli, fino a che
On the sea, on the rocks, until
The sun decided to set
We are left with sea salt on our skin
Giriamo le vie di Gallipoli
We wander around the streets of Gallipoli
Rolando, Sandro ed io in libertà,
Rolando, Sandro, and I are free to be here
liberamente qui possiamo stare noi,
We can stay here freely
Alone among the old white lime walls
Porto di pescatori e gente povera
A port of fishermen and poor people
Aging on the doorstep of a single room
What will become of us staying together?
Sandro, quando finirà la nostra attesa?
Sandro, when will our waiting be over?
Quando, chetato il mare,
When, the sea being calm,
senza più una parola,
Without a word,
With hunched shoulders, we will go in search of the moon.
Scalzi giocano a calcio sulla strada
Barefooted children play soccer in the street
bambini che crescono solo per andarsene,
Children who grow up just to leave
Rolando, when will we all leave from here?
A face appears at a window, and it is
un volto senza sesso e senza età;
A face without gender or age;
amici, amici miei, dev'essere così
My friends, it must be like this
scorderemo il nostro stare insieme di adesso.
We will forget our being together now.
