They are widely credited to have spearheaded the "Shibuya-kei" movement of Tokyo in the 90s, along with Flipper's Guitar.
They are known for their eclectic and energetic compositions, which often sound like "new" releases from the late 1960s hipster scene. Their catchphrase--"A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"--captured the group's ironic stance but eager attitude. The group broke up in March 2001.
A hugely prolific group, Pizzicato Five would release at least an album-per-year along with various EPs and remix albums during their 16 year-career.
Both Nomiya Maki (野宮真貴) and Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) currently enjoy solo careers - with Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) producing other artists ranging from Puffy and SMAP to Cornelius and kahimi karie(カヒミ・カリィ) - alongside collaborative remix compilations - from Ella Fitzgerald and The Supremes to classic Disney and Thunderbirds (as in Super-Marionated) music on his Shibuya-based Readymade Records label.
On Thursday March 31st, 2011, exactly 10 years after Pizzicato Five disbanded, Konishi Yasuharu announced a new solo project called Pizzicato One. The first release, titled One and Ten Very Sad Songs, consists of covers of English songs, each featuring vocals by various internationally-known artists from around the world.

tokyo, 7 p.m.
yeh yeh yeh ooh!
as I watched tv vacantly
I had a strange dream
woke up and saw the time
tokyo, 7 p.m.
just to see you
I've been dressed up since morning
I want to be loved all night
tokyo, 7 p.m.
the restaurant
where we were to meet
had closed and disappeared
and I'm dying
from hunger
I wanna see you soon
I wanna see you soon
tokyo at 7 p.m.
this glorious city
is like a lie
I'm so lonely so I wanna see you
tokyo, 7 p.m.
I truly love you
but I'm so lonely and I wanna see you
a breeze hits me
as I open the taxi window
I'm rushing to see you
tokyo, 7 p.m.
suddenly, an answering machine
starts by itself
and talks all night
the tokyo night, mysterious
waiting for the lights
at a crossing
you are always so kind
today again
I'm a little late
I wanna see you soon
I wanna see you soon
tokyo, 7 p.m.
but it's not christmas
i'm so lonely, so I wanna see you
tokyo, 7 p.m.
I truly love you
I'm so lonely, and I wanna see you
In the whole world
can you
love only me?
the restaurant
where we were to meet
had closed and disappeared
holding only a
bouquet of roses
you are waiting alone
the same roses
I saw in a dream
I wanna see you soon
I wanna see you soon
tokyo at 7 p.m.
this glorious city
is like a lie
I'm so lonely so I wanna see you
tokyo, 7 p.m.
I truly love you
I'm so lonely and I wanna see you
tokyo, 7 p.m.
The lyrics to "The Night Is Still Young" by Pizzicato Five Feat. Hatsune Miku convey a sense of loneliness and yearning for someone special in the midst of the bustling city of Tokyo. The singer expresses a desire to see their loved one as soon as possible, even though the restaurant they were supposed to meet at has closed and disappeared. They believe that this city, even though it might seem glorious, is like a lie and that their loneliness can only be appeased by the presence of their loved one.
The theme of loneliness and yearning for connection is a common one in many modern pop songs. However, what makes this song stand out is the use of Hatsune Miku, a virtual singer created by Crypton Future Media. Hatsune Miku's electronic voice adds a futuristic and dreamlike element to the song, while also contributing to the sense that the singer's longing for connection is not a purely human emotion. The use of electronic music and virtual reality in the creation of this song is particularly appropriate given the subject matter.
Overall, "The Night Is Still Young" is a song that speaks to the universal human desire for connection and companionship, even in the midst of a bustling city and a technologically advanced world. It shows that no matter how disconnected we might feel at times, the need for emotional connection is always present.

Yeah Yeah Yeah Fu
