They are widely credited to have spearheaded the "Shibuya-kei" movement of Tokyo in the 90s, along with Flipper's Guitar.
They are known for their eclectic and energetic compositions, which often sound like "new" releases from the late 1960s hipster scene. Their catchphrase--"A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"--captured the group's ironic stance but eager attitude. The group broke up in March 2001.
A hugely prolific group, Pizzicato Five would release at least an album-per-year along with various EPs and remix albums during their 16 year-career.
Both Nomiya Maki (野宮真貴) and Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) currently enjoy solo careers - with Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) producing other artists ranging from Puffy and SMAP to Cornelius and kahimi karie(カヒミ・カリィ) - alongside collaborative remix compilations - from Ella Fitzgerald and The Supremes to classic Disney and Thunderbirds (as in Super-Marionated) music on his Shibuya-based Readymade Records label.
On Thursday March 31st, 2011, exactly 10 years after Pizzicato Five disbanded, Konishi Yasuharu announced a new solo project called Pizzicato One. The first release, titled One and Ten Very Sad Songs, consists of covers of English songs, each featuring vocals by various internationally-known artists from around the world.

These lyrics are from Pizzicato Five's song "きみになりたい" (Kimi ni Naritai), which translates to "I Want to Be You" in English. The song features the longing and admiration of the singer towards someone they desire to be.
In the first two stanzas, the singer expresses the physical beauty of the person they are addressing - their beautiful eyes, lips, and voice. However, there seems to be a contradiction as the singer suggests that this person is also lying. This could be interpreted as the singer acknowledging that even though the person may appear physically flawless, they still possess flaws or shortcomings, such as deception or insincerity.
The next part of the lyrics continues to emphasize the person's beauty, this time referring to their poses, fingers, and the way they play with love. The singer seems to imply that this person is able to manipulate or play with love because of their attractiveness. However, despite the singer acknowledging these qualities, they state that there is no one as beautiful as this person.
Moving into the second paragraph, the singer mentions the person's beautiful smile, but contrasts it with their coldness. This suggests a disconnect between their appearance and their behavior. The singer then expresses their love for this person, emphasizing the intensity of their feelings. Yet, they also acknowledge that no one else is as beautiful as the person they desire to be. This repetition could be seen as a reflection of the singer's conviction and longing.
The last line simply states, "I want to be you." It encapsulates the main theme of the song, highlighting the singer's desire and admiration to become the person they are addressing. This line emphasizes the singer's yearning for the qualities and attributes possessed by this individual, suggesting a desire to escape their own self and become someone they idolize.
Overall, these lyrics depict a protagonist who is captivated by the physical beauty of another person and idolizes their grace and attractiveness. However, they also acknowledge the potential flaws in this person. The repetition in the lyrics reflects the singer's intense longing to possess the qualities of the person they desire and become someone they perceive to be perfect.

O slogan "Um novo e espectacular som estereofônico " captura a postura irônica e atitude ansiosa do grupo.
