They are widely credited to have spearheaded the "Shibuya-kei" movement of Tokyo in the 90s, along with Flipper's Guitar.
They are known for their eclectic and energetic compositions, which often sound like "new" releases from the late 1960s hipster scene. Their catchphrase--"A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"--captured the group's ironic stance but eager attitude. The group broke up in March 2001.
A hugely prolific group, Pizzicato Five would release at least an album-per-year along with various EPs and remix albums during their 16 year-career.
Both Nomiya Maki (野宮真貴) and Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) currently enjoy solo careers - with Konishi Yasuharu(小西康陽) producing other artists ranging from Puffy and SMAP to Cornelius and kahimi karie(カヒミ・カリィ) - alongside collaborative remix compilations - from Ella Fitzgerald and The Supremes to classic Disney and Thunderbirds (as in Super-Marionated) music on his Shibuya-based Readymade Records label.
On Thursday March 31st, 2011, exactly 10 years after Pizzicato Five disbanded, Konishi Yasuharu announced a new solo project called Pizzicato One. The first release, titled One and Ten Very Sad Songs, consists of covers of English songs, each featuring vocals by various internationally-known artists from around the world.

In Pizzicato Five's song "むずかしい人" ("Difficult Person"), the lyrics speak of a person who is described as difficult in various ways. The first two lines talk about this person reading difficult books, implying that they may have a complex or sophisticated intellect. The next lines mention that this person speaks with a difficult expression, suggesting that they have a serious or stern demeanor. Despite their complexity, the singer still loves this person and asks them to smile a little.
The next verse continues to depict the difficult nature of this person. They are said to constantly say difficult things, which implies that their words may be deep or intellectual. However, despite their complexity, the singer expresses the desire to have lighthearted moments with this person, like sharing a light kiss or doing something enjoyable together.
The bridge introduces another aspect of this person's life, mentioning that they own a difficult dog that barks. This can be seen as a metaphor for their challenging and demanding personality. The lyrics conclude with the suggestion that the singer has grown weary and it is time to say goodbye.
Overall, the song can be interpreted as a portrayal of the complexities and challenges that come with being in a relationship with a difficult person. Despite their complicated nature, there is still love and a desire for connection, even if it may require effort and understanding.

We demand their catalog be finally reissued!

this group is crazy...I love their music

I don’t understand why this amazing album hasn’t been reissued on CD
Wobert Music
I was wondering the exact same thing. Same with just about all the rest of their albums. At the very least, their albums could be made available on streaming services. That would at least provide a little bit of royalties to them instead of people just listening to them on YouTube.

Wobert Music I really find it weird, since the Japanese like to make fantastic reissues of old records. Let’s hope it gets reissued one of these days.
BarnardoP
Has of course been re-released within the Japanese market, but most original P5 albums do not have commercial international distribution deals (except for the music as repackaged by the Matador CDs). The international streaming services are similarly restricted, unfortunately.

Why do it? The industry is doing well with Beyonce, stuff like that.

This band desperately needs vinyl reissues..........like, YESTERDAY!
