Since his debut as states of mind and fuse in 1990 to the launch of Plastikman in 1992, his sound has developed through early connotations of acidic techno and extreme levels of energy (1993's 'Spastik') to sonic experiments in futuristic-rhythms and off-world ambience (1998's 'Consumed' LP). More minimal approaches were evident through his year long 12-record project 'Concept 1' from 1996. His recording attention is matched head-on by his groundbreaking DJ performances, which incorporate turntables, effects processors and additional instruments (the 909 Drum Machine and Roland SH-101 Synthesizer). His world-renown enhanced DJ set-up of decks, efx & 909 has kept pushing the boundaries of what a DJ can do by increasing the potential of creativity through once again, technology.

Terms changed. Originally this was called minimal trance in the US and Canada. Josh Wink and Richie Hawtin were the minimal trance pioneers who created a spiritual, acid driven sound. Some called it acid trance. I did. But these same artists also did higher energy playful stuff, and THAT stuff was called acid/minimal techno. Techno evolved more, had more breaky elements to the beat at places, and the beat/melody were interlaced. Neither stood over the other. Trance was beat dominant- the beat almost drowns out the melody after awhile. To repeat: he higher energy stuff was techno, the more repetitive and spiritual stuff was trance. Anything with a throbbing repetitiveness, progressive or not, was "Trance". Techno was more fun, party minded, and playful, and "Afro"... But...terms suddenly changed mid 90s....I blame Sven Vath haha

After melodic/vocal trance emerged in Europe in the mid90s, all the older "trance" was re-categorized as minimal techno. Specifically, German speaking countries began referring to their high energy, throbbing yet melodic supersaw driven tracks as "trance"... in the late 90s, damn near everything was being called trance, and techno was considered a dirty word for "old school 808/909/303 compositions" ! OF course, none of this really makes sense...

This is why you will hear a constant argument on the internet over what counts as techno and what counts as trance- people aren't using the terms the same way.

The major divide in terminology happens when music passes across the Atlantic Ocean...A similar argument persists over what counts as dubstep, and what subgenres of dubstep should be called. Americans refer to Skrillex's main sound as dubstep or ragga dubstep, and in Europe they called it Brostep. Yet, the early dubstep from UK is usually called "chillstep" in the US.

My friend , im sorry but you are wrong. Minimal is a sub genre of techno, but it still techno, you can call it just techno. this track is actually more acid than minimal, thats notourious on the roland 303 effects... You need to search more about techno and minimalistic/ acid/ downtempo sounds, the history and his infuences. you're welcome!

I always discribe music in more then one word in my music collection, to discribe a certain mood. This can differ from moment to moment or person to person. It's not an exact science or science at all, that's also the reason why the word fusion and blends exists... i would discribe this as : minimal easy trancey ambient lounge.

acid is a subgenre in trance, like I don't know acid or what ?? Been there, just like EBM and newbeat, you remember those days ? I was raised in the belgian new beat and electronica scene. this song is no dancefloor killer but more like a pre- or afterparty one... it has a chill state of mind... so what the f... is wrong with my description. Acid is not a sub-genre of trance. I hope I misunderstood you? Trance douchery did not even exist back then, thank god. If you want to know a about Acid,ask somebody in their 30's who knows how to maneuver a Roland 303 & 606.
