*Note:
In the early 90s, the name Psyche was also used as an alias of Detroit techno artist Carl Craig. Under this early pseudonym the legendary Detroit based techno producer released a few 12"s on Transmat - later compiled onto 'Elements', alongside other material written under his BFC alias, and released on Craig's own Planet E label.
Also, a short lived west coast Scottish new wave/rock band called Psyche released a 7" single in 1982.
Illusion
Psyche Lyrics

I didn't understand
But now I reason why
You held the future in your hands
The choice to live or die
All the cards are on the table
But now I see the face of death
You can play if you are able
Don't trust the illusion
Where is the guarantee?
Promise we forgot to lie
When the sky came crashing down
Before our vary eyes
Don't trust the illusion
I chose the road less travelled by
The lyrics of Psyche's song Illusion initially express confusion, with the singer admitting that they didn't understand something. However, they then reveal that they have come to understand why the 'you' in the song held the future in their hands and gave the singer the choice to live or die. The singer recognizes that a game is being played, with 'all the cards...on the table,' and that death is a possibility. Those who choose to play must be able to hold their breath, suggesting that the stakes are high and the risks great.
The chorus, 'Don't trust the illusion,' speaks to the idea that things may not always be what they seem, that there may be something deceptive taking place. The singer questions where the guarantee is and suggests that promises were broken when the sky came crashing down before their very eyes. Despite this, they assert their choice to take the path less traveled by.
Overall, the lyrics of Psyche's Illusion suggest a sense of resistance or defiance in the face of something uncertain, dangerous, and possibly illusory. The singer recognizes that there are risks and that a game is being played, but seems determined to proceed on their own terms, refusing to trust the illusion.
