Bio:
After teaching overseas in the Marshall Islands, Chris Cunningham returned to Seattle in 2008 and met Brantley Duke, a local record engineer and musician. Within two months of their introduction, the pair began writing and playing music together. They shared a common interest in darker sounding melodies combined with intricate vocal harmonies.
In the spring of 2009, a talented Seattle drummer by the name of Matt Badger was introduced to Chris at a show. After a 5 minute conversation, Matt was invited to join the project.
The trio spent the summer of ‘09 practicing and writing together, then began recording what would become their first full-length, a 14 track album titled “Demons and Lakes.”
Since the album’s release in January 2010, Ravenna Woods has been enjoying a large amount of local support, consistent airplay on Seattle’s KEXP 90.3, and very favorable press (local and international).
Ravenna Woods was awarded the title of ‘Best Acoustic Indie Band of 2010’ by Seattle Magazine, and got voted into KEXPs top 90 albums of 2010.
Ravenna is currently wrapping up their upcoming effort – “Valley of the Headless Men.”
The sound can best be described as innovative acoustic indie music that weaves together haunting vocal harmonies, complex finger picking, and unconventional percussion into complex song structures.
Careful Where You Are
Ravenna Woods Lyrics

Much too late to stop and wait for any help to come…
So careful where you wander out; careful not to lose your way.
Don’t fight it – it only makes things worse, it only…
Watch yourself – no matter where you go, no matter…
Careful where you are.
Left for dead, your friends just said, “It was his time to go”
Some were real, and other fake – I guess we’ll never know,
The lyrics to Ravenna Woods's song "Careful Where You Are" appear to be a reflection on the journey of life and the pitfalls one can experience along the way. The opening lines paint a picture of confusion and uncertainty, with the singer seemingly lost on various paths that they started hiking on. However, it seems they have reached a point where they cannot turn back, and waiting for help to come is no longer an option. They must forge ahead with caution and be mindful of where they wander, lest they lose their way.
The chorus reinforces this message, emphasizing the importance of being careful and watching oneself. Fighting against the challenges faced on the path only makes things worse, and while it may not always be possible to control the circumstances one finds oneself in, it is crucial to stay aware of one's surroundings and to navigate them as best they can. The final verse adds another layer to the song's meaning, hinting at the idea that the people one encounters on the journey may not always be who they seem to be. Some friends may be real, while others may be fake - and discerning between the two requires careful consideration and the ability to choose one's battles wisely.
Overall, "Careful Where You Are" seems to be a cautionary tale about the journey through life and the importance of being mindful of the choices one makes and the people they encounter along the way.
