Look at Me Now
Reveille Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He's lost 'cause he's incomplete
He's in between, somewhere in between, in between the sleepless shadows
Battling to break the love that's 'guaranteed to make you bleed thicker than blood'
He don't want it, but craves what he can't escape
He's staring straight through his fate and now he's face to face
You want to fall down, well this could make your dreams come true
Because the devil was an angel too
Look at me now, making the same mistakes I said I'd never make again-
But now I'm back in the same place
Look at me now, somebody stole my soul-
I feel the breaks go and I'm spinning out of control
Come step into a brave new world-
Not even worth it
Decent comes quick and now he's anything but perfect
And still he worships that fundamental bullshit talk
'The path you carve yourself is the path to walk'
Now walk alone-
Play it to the bone
Don't make it right just because he got his sickness from that venomous bite
We want to fall down, well this could make our dreams come true
Because the devil was an angel too
It's gonna be alright, everything's okay
Mothers tears will fall and wash it all away
Suck, suck it- suck, suck it up
The lyrics of "Look at Me Now" by Reveille are a introspective reflection on the singer's life and his current state of being. The first verse describes him as unable to avoid conflicts and lost, feeling incomplete and struggling in the shadows between wakefulness and sleep. He is battling against a love that he knows will hurt him deeply, but he can't help but crave what he can't escape. He is staring his fate in the face and he knows that he might fall and make mistakes again, and someone might steal his soul. The chorus is a reminder to himself to take a hard look at his life and decisions, to see the mistakes he's made and the lessons he's learned. He wants to be in control, but he's spinning out of it.
In the second verse, the singer encourages the listener to enter a new, brave world, but realizes that it's not worth it as it's so easy to fall and become imperfect. He's frustrated with the empty talk of following one's own path and now, he must walk alone and play things to the bone. He knows that he can't justify something just because it feels right, and he compares his situation to a sickness that comes from a venomous bite. The devil was once an angel with good intentions, but look where that got him. In the end, the singer tries to reassure himself that everything will be okay and that his mother's tears will wash it all away. The repetition of the "suck, suck it up" line could be interpreted as him telling himself to suck it up and take responsibility for his life and actions.
