She was born in Chipiona, Cádiz, Spain and was nicknamed "The Greatest".
Jurado began performing flamenco at a very young age, debuting on the big screen in 1962 with "Los guerrilleros", acting alongside Manolo Escobar. She also played a main role in 1966's "Proceso a una estrella" and 1971's "Una chica casi decente". While temporarily living in Argentina, the Spanish diva participated in a successful musical called "La zapatera prodigiosa", based on Federico García Lorca's work. La Niña De Puerta Oscura
(Quintero/León/Quiroga)
(Nota: Lo que lee es lo que oigo. Entre 's están las palabras
Pronunciadas en andaluz)
(Note: What I hear is what you get. Between 's are the andalusian
The song La Niña de Puerta Oscura by Rocio Jurado tells the story of a girl from Puerta Oscura who fell in love with a man, presumably Manolo Centeno. It describes how the girl encountered this man and how he became enamored with her captivating beauty. The lyrics relay the conversation between the two as the man asks the girl where she could be going so late at night. In response, the girl reveals that she is in search of a rose, the rose of the month of April.
The song then takes a turn as the man shares with Lola, the girl's friend, a plan he has to build a coral house for her in the middle of a lemon grove. He wants to create a paradise where the two of them can dance under the stars at night. However, the girl never returned to see him again, and the people of Malaga whispered about her disappearance. The song ends with the man lamenting the loss of his chance with the beautiful girl.
Overall, the song captures the essence of a classic Andalusian love story filled with passion, longing, and heartache. It uses poetic language and metaphors to describe the beauty of the girl and the man's desire for her. The lyrics also depict the cultural customs and traditions of the region.
