1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

Families of Eden
Rome Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That smelled of the sea
I was a plunderer then
In grave gowns, in small jealousies
I found subservience
And the cold came with it
And it kept its menace secret
There´s not much hope
In their kind of tomorrow
And what´s left of yours
You must tie to your dream
Our hope, it travels in a song
Man hat uns ins Feuer gebracht
Warum hast du uns verlassen?
And we roam about like thirsty winds
Like some boisterous race
And pass scrapbook bonfires
Some things always survive the flames
And we are not afraid of ruins
For we will inherit the earth
And we carry the new world within us
No matter how invincible
You deem yourselves
You will break
Just like the twigs you worship
Tied into bundles with the master´s ax
Man hat uns ins Feuer gebracht
Aber von deiner Heiligen Schrift
Wollte niemand ablassen
I grew up in a world
That smelled of the sea
I had many brothers then
Now I have all of europe
Come now, come
Through the thickening fire
Into the violent night
In the song 'Families of Eden' by Rome, the singer reminisces about his youth and experiences growing up in a world that smelled of the sea. He describes himself as a plunderer who was consumed by small jealousies and subservience. The cold in this world came with a hidden menace, and there was little hope to be found in the future represented by priests and police. However, the singer encourages listeners to cling to their dreams, which are the only things of value that remain. Even though hope travels in a song, we must be willing to break from the old ways and embrace the new world within us. The singer suggests that those who worship the past and its oppressive systems will eventually break like twigs under the pressure of change. Instead, we must embrace the flames and ruins for they will lead to a new inheritance of the earth. The song ends with an exhortation to come through the thickening fire and into the violent night, which may represent an embrace of the unknown future.
Overall, the song 'Families of Eden' is a call to let go of the past and embrace the new world that is emerging. It speaks to the need to stand up against oppressive systems and to cling to our dreams in order to create a better future.
