1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

The Death of Longing
Rome Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To deeper wonders than the waves
Men too proud to mend their ways
What relief! To be among men
Who swore never to stumble
Never to tire, never to waste their
Time by preaching to the choir
But to take this longing
For that is where dissent
And disloyalty shall meet
For that is where beauty
And necessity shall meet
Now, I have many friends
Like you can't count the wheat
And many are those who shared their
Bread along the river aeeth
And we all shared shelter
Danger and wine too
To join in this
Bloodless birth of hope
For we find neither dignity
Nor comfort in rest like you
And as they threw open
Their orchards
I found you there
Between two rows of tenderness
And two rows of despair
And as they threw open
Their orchards
I found you there
Between two rows of tenderness
And two rows of despair
And now I owe you all
And now I owe you all
Now we are left
Picking up the pieces
Of ideals smothered in pomp
And told to cherish
Whatever lowers and weeps
And blame it on the one
Who rises and leaps
And yet, we shall remain
Among the few
Leaderless men
The only ones to refuse
Th become leaders of men
Who are still strangers
To gloating
Who are still strangers
To loathing
And as they threw open
Their orchards
I found you there
Between two rows of tenderness
And two rows of despair
And as they threw open
Their orchards
I found you there
Between two rows of tenderness
And two rows of despair
And now I owe you all
And now I owe you all
The lyrics of the song The Death of Longing by Rome reflect on the ideas of struggle, hope, and persistence, even in tough times. The opening lines of the song talk about the comfort of being in the midst of people who have experienced deeper wonders and are too proud to give up. It describes how such people take their longing onto the streets and challenge the status quo, speaking out against dissent and disloyalty. The song draws attention to the meeting of beauty and necessity in the face of struggle and despair.
The middle part of the song seems to emphasize the idea of community and solidarity among people who share the same struggle. The lyrics talk about the singer's many friends who've shared their bread and shelter together. They all come together to create a "bloodless birth of hope," refusing to rest until their struggle has yielded results. The last few lines of the song talk about their refusal to become the leaders of men but to remain among the few leaderless men.
Overall, The Death of Longing by Rome encourages people to keep on with their struggle for justice and freedom even when faced with setbacks and despair, working together in solidarity and hope.

The voice and drums are hand in hand timed and mixed perfectly. These guys are so underrated, probably because the lyrics mean TOO much... Great music.

He is simply amazing...I've been listening them since 2009, and I have not found yet anything as good as Rome. Every listening is pure magic!!
