Gold in Them Hills

But maybe it's the perfect day
Even though the bills are piling
And maybe Lady Luck ain't smiling
But if we'd only open our eyes
We'd see the blessings in disguise
That all the rain clouds are fountains
There's gold in them hills
There's gold in them hills
So don't lose heart
Give the day a chance to start
Every now and then life says
Where do you think you're going so fast
We're apt to think it cruel but sometimes
It's a case of cruel to be kind
And if we'd get up off our knees
Why then we'd see the forest for the trees
And we'd see the new sun rising
Over the hills on the horizon
There's gold in them hills
There's gold in them hills
So don't lose faith
Give the world a chance to say...
A word or two, my friend
There's no telling how the day might end
And we'll never know until we see
That there's gold in them hills
There's gold in them hills
So don't lose heart
Give the day a chance to start
There's gold in them hills
There's gold in them hills
In Ron Sexsmith's song "Gold in Them Hills," the lyrics are a message of hope and encouragement amidst life's challenges, encouraging listeners to look beyond their difficulties and see the hidden opportunities and blessings that await them. The song begins with acknowledging the piling bills and lack of luck, but suggests that perhaps it is the perfect day to see things differently. The lyrics use the metaphor of rain clouds and mountains to illustrate the idea that our problems may seem daunting, but they also harbor blessings in disguise.
The second verse challenges the fast-paced approach to life and encourages taking a moment to appreciate the present. It acknowledges the occasional cruelty of life that may seem unfair at first, but in hindsight, it was necessary for growth. The lyrics suggest if we take a step back and rise up from our challenges, we can see the beauty in the world and the new opportunities available to us.
The chorus repeats the uplifting message of finding gold in the hills, encouraging listeners to hold on to hope and give the day a chance to start. The final verse advises listeners to remain open-minded and take every chance that comes our way to live our best lives as there's no telling how the day might end.
Overall, "Gold in Them Hills" is a beautiful song that reminds us to keep a positive attitude towards life, be resilient in the face of adversity, and look for opportunities even in difficult situations.

For those of us who (on occasion) suffer from depression- this song helps me get out of bed and place one foot in front of the other... In other words, it helps restore my faith and brings hope to my soul. Isn't it amazing the power of music and words? Thank you Mr. Sexsmith...
