I have a special place in my heart for White Christmas and Ms. Clooney. Family lore says that after WWII my grandfather was working at a radio station in NYC and met Rosemary. He asked her out to dinner and they apparently had a great time (“but no funny stuff” I’m told lol). He said she was even more beautiful in person and had the best personality. She loved to joke around and had a beautiful laugh.

I still watch this show every year. I love the pretty dresses and the magic of the production musical numbers and cast.
We were all left with such a precious gift with this show and these actors who take us step backwards to a moment in time when life was a little more simple. This show was also paid a wonderful tribute to the service boys facing some scary moments of their own mortality durring war time. Those who were greatful to be alive to make it back home to their loved ones for christmas. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this precious gift you brought in to our lives and our homes. It is a timeless classic that has made my home durring the Christmas season feel warm and bright every year. Thank you!

Ironically, it was Rosemary Clooney who said Bing made it so easy that “ if you can’t sing with Bing Crosby, you can’t sing.” I got to see her in concert a few years before she died. She was better than ever, and so in touch with the audience. In retrospect it was an honor and a privilege to have been there. Truly one of the greats.

P.S. A word on Danny Kaye... I can't imagine this film without his genius. His talent was so diverse and phenomenal that it still blows my mind. In fact, the casting of this entire picture was absolutely inspired, a miracle in itself. Merry Christmas!!

Danny Kaye could do it all. With his lanky frame, he could sing, he could act ("Hans Christian Anderson" is just wonderful), and he could dance. Boy could he dance. With Vera-Ellen in "The Best Thing Happen While You Dance" is a phenomenon. They make it look so easy, but one can only imagine take after take after take to get it just right. And they smile, too. Incredible...

Finally watched this movie for the first time this year...over and over again. Don't have a clue why I waited 57 years. There is so much talent in every aspect that makes this movie so emotionally triggering. I literally cried when Netflix quit streaming it after Christmas...now I need to get the DVD since I can't buy the streaming version from Amazon. Irving Berlin is a genius. Edith Head is a genius. The actors are geniuses. An overly stimulating movie with so much song, dance, and don't forget the story line of the General...that one tear in his eye at the end pretty much sums up life...and it was said in "It's a Wonderful Life" at the end..."No man is a failure who has friends". Most movies have an entertainment level...this movie actually MOVES you! Peace and Love to all!

One of the best memories of my lifetime is being at Rosemary Clooney's home outside Durant, Ok. She was SO kind and welcoming. We did hayrides, bonfires and some good old college fun. I am not sure why she opened her property to us and was so kind but she was. I wish I had told her how much I loved her music. There's nothing like "counting your blessings instead of sheep!".

My wife, a retired artist from Louisville's Courier-Journal, was asked to do Rosemary's portrait for a feature story in the late '80s.
She met Rosemary, also Nick and Nina, and gave her the original color pastel which is now displayed in Rosemary's former bedroom in Augusta, Kentucky. Sweet, genuine lady! So very talented.

I was 9 years old when this film was released. My mother had made a rule that year; I wasn't allowed to see any movie with a happy ending, which is to say most movies back in those days. I got lucky in the winter of '54 and got to see White Christmas with my mother not finding out. For me, the movie was a forbidden thrill.

Hard to believe this film was actually made in '54, because it still holds up so well today. Rosemary Clooney was my first movie star crush, too. When I saw those baby blues and blonde hair, my heart went ka-flooey!!
Btw, if you'll notice at exactly 2:24 minutes in to this video, you'll see her dancing with a dark-haired, handsome lad. That dancer was George Chakiris, who would actually go on to star as the leader of the Sharks, 'Bernardo,' in the movie version of "West Side Story" in 1961, when he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

The amazing thing is that this movie has almost NOTHING to do with Christmas save the fact that the benefit show takes place on Christmas Eve and the last song is a Christmas themed number. It didn't even premiere at Christmas but rather in mid October. Yet, for some odd reason, its considered a Christmas movie!

My father was a young US Marine, fighting in the Pacific Islands, in World War II. He first heard the song White Christmas while sitting on a log with his fellow Marines, as representatives from an early version of the USO visited, and played the record on a for them in a jungle clearing. This all took place in July, over seven months after the hit record had been released, because fighting prevented the visitors from coming any sooner. As Rosemary Cluney noted, White Christmas was the best-selling record of all time for a long period but was surpassed by the "We are the World" fundraising recording roughly four decades later. My best friend of 55 years & I have been huge WC fans since we were kids & have memorized virtually the whole dialogue. The past few years, it has played in theaters for a few days in December, we've gone with my daughter & granddaughters. The grands can't quite believe we can recite ALL the lines right along with the stars. I highly recommend watching it on the big screen if you have the chance, especially to see costume details.

My family went on vacation for Christmas 🎄 and this is the first time my son has seen snow ❄️ so once we got back from a day of skiing 🎿 we cuddled up and watched White ⛄️ Christmas!! This show is so timeless and still resonates with audience of all ages! I remember watching this with my grandmother the Christmas before she died, and today I got to share it with three generations of my family! Everyone has already said all the incredible, magnificent, wonderful things that need to be said about this movie! It has always been my favorite movie for as long as I can remember. I'm also one of those who cannot have a Christmas holiday without this movie, and also watch it all during the year. On a funny note, I always used to tell people that Michael Jackson got the idea for the White Glove after watching this film! If you look at what Rosemary is wearing during the song "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me", you'll get it. Merry Christmas to everyone!

"White Christmas" is my favorite Christmas film. "Sisters". I still find the baby blue dresses and fans still delights me. "Love, You Didn't Do Right by Me." Edith Head's gown in black velvet (with the diamond pin), and Miss Clooney's silver gloves is sexy as all get out. I've got a CD of the songs from the film, originally it was produced by Decca, which was Crosby's label. Rosemary Clooney's label was Columbia, so she couldn't record any of numbers in the show. Peggy Lee replaced her.
There was rumors that Vera-Ellen was anorexic, hence her high-necked costumes, which were designed to hold her head up. She denies this. She was embarrassed of her thin neck she says. She, they also say, was prone to fainting after her fast dance numbers (the yellow dance costume number in "White Christmas"). I can just imagine in rehearsals, dancing it again and again, even if she did not have an eating problem, I would faint, too.
Anyways, if you have not seen the movie, it is one of the great Hollywood musicals. I know you will not be disappointed.

I’d like to sing praises for Irving Berlin’s fabulous music also. He sure knew how to write catchy popular songs!!
The movie came out the year I was born,1954. I didn’t see it until I was much older. It’s been a tradition to watch it for the last 20 years atleast. We know most of the dialogue. We’re going to watch it tonight, Christmas Eve 2020.

Never mind Christmas movie. My favorite all time musical movie. Brings back beautiful memories. Puts me in a great mood for Christmas. I love the Christmas holiday. And I’m Jewish!!! But it’s a wonderful time of the year. And I enjoy nothing more than saying merry Christmas to everyone I see in stores or on the street and love getting the same response. A truly wonderful time of year and this movie has it all. Love Danny Kaye and bing!!

Still on my Christmas viewing list at Christmas along with Scrooge and holiday inn. Great songs and wonderful cast. You can’t ask for a better film to watch to raise your spirits and make you smile and laugh all day

I adored Rosemary Clooney. And had a big crush on Danny Kaye. He was so versatile in his movies and had so many talents. I loved his voice. Danny was an experienced pilot. Cooking Chinese and Italian cuisine. Even taught cooking at a Chinese restaurant. Had business ventures, baseball ventures and was in charity work for children. So much more too. I just loved him drawn to his musical movies. ❤️

Rarely do you hear about the legendary Edith Head’s contributions to this perennial Christmas classic. So, thank you. It would have been appropriate if you’d have mentioned George Chakiris’ small part as a backup dancer in “White Christmas.” George went on, of course, to win an Oscar for his role in “West Side Story.” Still, Rosemary won so many fans with this performance and to this day her record albums remain some of my favorites.

Thanks for the insights. (Only Hollywood could present Rosemary, with her Irish face, and Vera, with her Slavic face, as sisters.) Rosemary's voice still has that husky warmth.

It's fascinating to hear how other actors were intended for the film, as I couldn't imagine it with different lead characters. But, I guess if it had been made with Fred Astaire or Donald O'Connor, I might be thinking the same thing. I think Frank Sinatra might have done a fine job, too, as he was really a superb actor. Thank you for this great upload.

Astaire and O'Connor were only the first choices for the Phil Davis role (the dance half of the team). The choices made sense, as both men had previously danced with Vera-Ellen. But Danny Kaye was a pleasant surprise; he did a wonderful duet with Vera-Ellen on "The Best Things Happen while You're Dancing."

Rosemary Clooney was a phenomenal singer. She had the potential to be a big movie star. Bing personally picked her for her part. in "White Christmas". During the late 1950s, musicals were winding down and the Hollywood studio star system was falling apart due to Television. Movie attendance dropped tremendously and all Hollywood studios were in a crisis. In addition, Rosemary married Jose Ferrer and was continually pregnant. This basically ended her career at Paramount. Paramount was not able to plan films for Rosemary as she was constantly not available. Rosemary remained good friends with Bing Crosby for the rest of her life. She had a serious breakdown which led to career setbacks. She lost her figure but she never lost her voice. She did a series of albums for Concord records in her later years which were all excellent. Her ability to interpret a song was incredible.
