The song "Fati Mata" by Sam Mangwana is a tale of a man who is deeply in love with a woman named Fati Mata. Despite her many flaws, including being excessively jealous, he forgives her and continues to love her. The lyrics describe her behaviour in both positive and negative lights, highlighting her beauty and allure but also her controlling and irrational behaviour. The chorus repeats the phrase "Ta facon d'aimer ce pas jolie, ce pas gentil, facon comme ca," which roughly translates to "The way you love is not pretty, not nice, like that." The song ends with the man expressing his disappointment with Fati Mata's actions and how they have harmed him, but reiterates his love for her.
One interesting fact about the song is that it was originally released in 1983 but has since been remixed and released multiple times. It was popular in the Congo and other French-speaking African countries, and is now considered a classic rumba song. The song has been covered by several other artists, including Koffi Olomide and Lokua Kanza. The lyrics have been translated into multiple languages and the song has been featured in several films and TV shows, including an episode of the popular TV show "Breaking Bad." Another interesting fact is that the song includes a reference to the bandji, a traditional Senegalese drink made from millet.
