Childhood:
Samy Deluxe grew up with his mothers family as his Sudanese father left Germany when Samy was just two years old. Shortly after this event his half-sister was born. After living in Barmbek for many years they then moved to Eppendorf, a generally better-off suburb of Hamburg. Given this contrast - he certainly did not come from a well-off background - and his constant problems at school with teachers who he often defied, he looked for a release and a way to express himself away from school. He soon discovered music.
Style:
Samy modelled himself on American hip hop. This gave him a great sense of caring for his family, although he boasts of having had a good relationship with his mother and the people who looked after him. He practised all year long writing lyrics and spitting them, he has outstanding freestyling skills. Even his fiercest rivals have admitted that he is one of the best Freestylers in Germany.
Audacious and eloquent, Samy initially chose an aggressive style, based on imaginative use of metaphors, complex overlapping rhymes and his own melodic flow. He favours constructing contantly changing pictures rather than telling long stories. Critics find fault with his limited content and repetitive subjects, but Sam Semillia (as he calls himself, taken from the non-toxis form of the cannabis plant, Sinsemilia) has responded by saying that he can only rap in the style and about the subjects that feel real to him.
Starting Out:
Before working with Dynamite Deluxe he was a member of German Hip Hop group "No Nonsens". He became very well known due to his many guest appearances on the CDs put out by hip hop artists such as Freundeskreis, the Stieber Twins, Main Concept, Eins Zwo, Ferris MC, Absolute Beginner, Das Bo and 5 Sterne Deluxe. It was the latter group in particular that he performed many concerts with. He also took it upon himself to do the festivals all over Germany in order to make a name for himself.

So can you please do something
To make them, like, put their hands up and stuff?“
„Alles gut, alles klar? (ja!)
Sehr gut“
One, two
Killa Kela, Samy Deluxe
Offiziell, prinzipiell, generell
Fick ob mein Label 'ne kommerziellere Single will
Dies' is nich fürs Stadion
Dies' is nich fürs Radio
Dies' hier is kein Partysong
Is eigentlich schade drum
Dies is' 'ne Kultur, dies is' mehr als Unterhaltung
Leute wollen mein' alten Scheiß? Kauft mein altes Album
Dies is SchwarzWeiss, ja, ich heiß' euch herzlich willkommen
Mehr als deutscher Rap, dies is' allgemeine Bildung
Kaum aufgenommen, schon 'n Klassiker
Neoexpressionnist, Jean Michel Basqiuat
Auf Beats, die ich grad gebastelt hab
Hier auf meiner MPC, lasst mich eure Hände sehen, was geht ab?
Dies is' keine Promotour, dies is' deutsche Hochkultur
Style is KRS-One, bisschen Rock
Bisschen Pac, bisschen Nas, bisschen H to the Izzo
Tiefsinnige Lyrik meets Phrasengedresche
Sage was ich will, man, was das für 'n Gefühl is
Competition hier is' so wie eins minus eins is'
Ey yo, sendet so, Wände rot, Sense, Tod
Das is Hip-Hops Finest
Gebe nicht Ruhe, bis Hip-Hop meins is
Ah, das heißt bis auf weiteres
Kick chicks, Slick Rick, Blick auf Niceness
Sieh mal Berliner, wer is Spieler, Erstliga
Stopp, woo!
„Hardie Rapapampam, Pam
Megalito, was los?“
„Samy Deluxe
The King of German Rap
„Was für ein Gipfeltreffen hier, Alter
Do this“
The song "Hände hoch" is a collaboration between Samy Deluxe and Megaloh. This song is a commentary on the state of German rap music and the lack of authenticity in the genre. The lyrics call for a return to the roots of hip hop, both in terms of its sound and message. The title, "Hände hoch", which means "hands up" in German, is an invitation for the audience to join the movement of real hip hop music.
The song starts with a request from the MC to the DJ to make the crowd put their hands up. This establishes the central theme of the song, which is getting people to react to real hip hop music. Samy Deluxe then raps about how he wants to bring back the old school sound of hip hop and how it used to be about expressing oneself freely. He also touches on the commercialization of German rap and how it has lost its soul. The chorus, "hebt die Hände hoch, wenn ihr den Scheiß fühlt" (raise your hands if you feel this shit) encourages listeners to get involved and show their support.
The middle section of the song features Megaloh, who raps in a similar vein to Samy Deluxe. Megaloh's verse is more aggressive and confrontational, calling out people who doubt his ability and discussing the competitive nature of the music industry. The song then concludes with a return to the chorus and a shout-out to various artists who have influenced Samy Deluxe.
