Childhood:
Samy Deluxe grew up with his mothers family as his Sudanese father left Germany when Samy was just two years old. Shortly after this event his half-sister was born. After living in Barmbek for many years they then moved to Eppendorf, a generally better-off suburb of Hamburg. Given this contrast - he certainly did not come from a well-off background - and his constant problems at school with teachers who he often defied, he looked for a release and a way to express himself away from school. He soon discovered music.
Style:
Samy modelled himself on American hip hop. This gave him a great sense of caring for his family, although he boasts of having had a good relationship with his mother and the people who looked after him. He practised all year long writing lyrics and spitting them, he has outstanding freestyling skills. Even his fiercest rivals have admitted that he is one of the best Freestylers in Germany.
Audacious and eloquent, Samy initially chose an aggressive style, based on imaginative use of metaphors, complex overlapping rhymes and his own melodic flow. He favours constructing contantly changing pictures rather than telling long stories. Critics find fault with his limited content and repetitive subjects, but Sam Semillia (as he calls himself, taken from the non-toxis form of the cannabis plant, Sinsemilia) has responded by saying that he can only rap in the style and about the subjects that feel real to him.
Starting Out:
Before working with Dynamite Deluxe he was a member of German Hip Hop group "No Nonsens". He became very well known due to his many guest appearances on the CDs put out by hip hop artists such as Freundeskreis, the Stieber Twins, Main Concept, Eins Zwo, Ferris MC, Absolute Beginner, Das Bo and 5 Sterne Deluxe. It was the latter group in particular that he performed many concerts with. He also took it upon himself to do the festivals all over Germany in order to make a name for himself.

They came and took my money and my cars away
Oh, late at night when I was lyin' asleep
They came and took my house away
Now all I have left is a dream of my music
All I have left is this street
The street of my own is music
This music is my road
Is my music and it's street
Was passiert is', es geschah über Nacht
Alles, was mir danach noch blieb
War diese Straßen Musik, diese Straßen Musik
Okay, Worst-Case-Szenario
Plötzlich Game Over, heute schlaf ich wo? Auf'm Bahnhofsklo
Doch egal, was soll's, ich bewahr' mein' Stolz
Was passiert is', es geschah über Nacht
Alles, was mir danach noch blieb
Gute Frage
Un' egal, was ich Falsches gesagt hab'
Is' wohl nix, was ich noch einma' in Zukunft sage
Was passiert is', es geschah über Nacht
Alles, was mir danach noch blieb
Was hab ich bloß getan?
Ich fragen will, wissen was (was), ihr ignoriert mich und sagt nichts
Was passiert is', es geschah über Nacht
Alles, was mir danach noch blieb
War diese Straßen Musik, diese Straßen Musik
The song "Strassen Musik" by Samy Deluxe talks about the struggles of being homeless and losing everything to an unseen force that takes away his money, cars, and house while he was asleep. All that is left is his passion for music, which he sees as a street that he can walk on. He talks about how hard life on the streets can be, but he tries his best to make the most out of it and how he used to be a famous rapper with a lot of money, but now he's just a homeless man with nothing but his talent.
Samy describes how he is now living on the streets, and although he's still rapping, he's now performing for money and has no place to call home. He talks about how he's lost everything and how the people he thought were his friends have left him. The song's last verse includes a message about the harsh realities of homelessness, how difficult it is to break the cycle of poverty, and how those suffering from it are often ignored, shunned, and left alone.
Overall, "Strassen Musik" is about the ups and downs that come with being a musician and a regular person, but through all the challenges, Samy holds onto his passion for music, which keeps him going. The song is a powerful reminder that music can be a way to escape harsh realities and find solace in difficult times.
