Train Wreck
Sarah McLachlan Lyrics

Tear up the darkness all around me
Until I can breathe again
Until I believe again
Cause I'm a train wreck
Waiting to happen
Waiting for someone to come pick me up off the tracks
Born of a world, oh, that gets me so high
I've no fear at all
But your eyes like midnight fireflies
Light up the trenches where my heart lies
Until I can see again
Find my way back again
'Cause I'm a train wreck
Waiting to happen
Waiting for someone to come pick me up off the tracks
A wild fire born of frustration
Born of the one love that gets me so high
I've no fear at all
To fall so deep into you
Lose myself completely
In your sweet embrace
All my pain's erased
From your mouth, it's all that I wish
Mercy of your lips, just one kiss
Until I can breathe again
Until I can sing again
'Cause I'm a train wreck
Waiting to happen
Waiting for someone to come pick me up off the tracks
A wild fire born of frustration
Born of the one love that gets me so high
I've no fear at all
To fall so deep into you
Lose myself completely
In your sweet embrace
All my pain's erased
Sarah McLachlan's "Train Wreck" is a song that talks about the healing power of love. The opening lines, "Your love in all its finery, Tear up the darkness all around me," suggest that the singer is in a dark place emotionally, and it is the love of another that brings light to her darkness. The lyric "I'm a train wreck, waiting to happen, waiting for someone to come pick me up off the tracks" implies that she is in a state of desperation, waiting for someone to come to her rescue. The following line, "A wild fire born of frustration, born of a world, oh, that gets me so high, I've no fear at all," indicates that the singer is aware of her reckless tendencies, but they are an expression of frustration brought on by the world's challenges.
The chorus is a repetition of the opening lines, reinforcing the message that it is the love of another that can heal her. The line "But your eyes like midnight fireflies, light up the trenches where my heart lies, until I can see again, find my way back again," builds on the previous message. The singer seems to be lost, and the person whose love she is describing is the one who can help her find herself again. The bridge of the song reinforces the theme that the love of this person can erase pain and provide a sense of rebirth.
Overall, "Train Wreck" is a song of hope that states that a person may be in a dark place or be self-destructive, but the love of another can help them heal, find themselves again and erase pain.
