In 2005 guitarist Dave Miller left the band and was replaced by Heath Saraceno, formerly of Midtown. The band's second full-length album, Still Searching, was released in 2006. They joined Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos in support of the album. Mike Glita then left the band the following year and Jason Black, also a member of Hot Water Music, joined initially as a temporary replacement but ended up remaining in the band. Their third album, Life Is Not a Waiting Room, was released in 2008. Heath Saraceno then left the band after their appearance at the 2009 Warped Tour and was replaced by Zack Roach, also guitarist of post-rock band Spirit of the Stairs.
Senses Fail's fourth album The Fire was released October 25, 2010 through UK label Hassle Records and elsewhere through Vagrant the following day. In February 2011, Garrett Zablocki left the band to attend college and was replaced by Matt Smith, also guitarist for Strike Anywhere.

Where halos have been made
It's not that your an homage
Your a dead end philosophy
I'll never let a tie be my noose
I'll never stop searching for the truth
Cause none of my possessions will make me who I am
Cause everything in my past is proof
I'll never stop searching for the truth
With my, with my last breath
The streetlights burst, we hope to rest
So bring me back to where all went wrong
So I can give up holding on
If I never love
Then I'll never learn
If I never fall
Then I never learned
Cause everything in my past is proof
I'll never stop searching for truth
With my, with my last breath
The streetlights burst, we hope to rest
So bring me back to where all went wrong
So I can give up holding on
Give up your false safety
Give up your false safety
The truth would set you free
If I never love
Then I'll never learn
If I never fall
How will I ever learn?
If it's one thing that I know
You gotta look inside to grow
So destroy yourself, just to find yourself
You gotta learn to let go
If I never love
Then I'll never learn
If I never fall
How will I ever learn?
If it's one thing that I know
You gotta look inside to grow
So destroy yourself, just to find yourself
You gotta learn to let go
The past burns slow
With my, with my last breath
The streetlights burst, we hope to rest
So bring me back to where all went wrong
So I can give up holding on
The song "The Past Is Proof" by Senses Fail is about the importance of learning from one's past and being true to oneself. The opening lyrics, "If I think, therefore, I am. Where halos have been made. It's not that you're an homage, you're a dead end philosophy," refer to the idea that if we spend too much time trying to be someone or something that we're not, we risk losing our true sense of self. The halos refer to the idea of angelic perfection, which is unattainable in reality. The song suggests that we should stay true to ourselves, regardless of what others might think.
The next set of lyrics, "I'll never let a tie be my noose. I'll never stop searching for the truth. I'd rather die out on the road as another boy or man. 'Cause none of my possessions will make me who I am," reinforces this idea of staying true to oneself. The tie represents the idea of conforming to societal expectations. However, the singer will "never let a tie be my noose." He would rather be true to himself and his ideals, even if it means that he might fail.
The chorus, "Cause everything in my past is proof. I'll never stop searching for truth," emphasizes the importance of learning from the past. The singer has learned from his past experiences and is using them to guide his future decisions. The song ends with the idea of letting go of past mistakes and experiences, as represented by the line "So bring me back to where all went wrong. So I can give up holding on."
