The marvelous pianist tells a story. A magician or perhaps a court jester is up to usual tricks. He becomes sentimental, almost romantic in his persuasion to win the spectators, but the old magic wins again. That is the abrupt fate Polichinelle is accustomed to.
Thank you a wonderful performance.

@dap4699

Is that an interpretation of your own or you got this from any source?

And by "pianist" I guess you mean the performer of the video, right?

In the mid 60's I was a 12 year pianist, 6ft. 2" with large hands.
I was fortunate to take lessons one summer with Olga Conus at Cincinnati College Conservatory. Madame and her much older husband, Leon had been great friends with Rachmaninov before they fled to Paris.
She was very encouraged by the way I played but said I was not telling the story.
It seems Russian composers, particularly of the Tchaikovsky era would sketch a story to their melodic ideas. That is how they constructed from not only in tone-poems but in concertos.symphonies --and yes, solo piano pieces.

@@stevehinnenkamp5625 hi again. Just wanted to remind you that I am interested with your anecdote. If you feel like continuing, please do so.

The court jester makes an abrasive entrance not objected to by royalty. That is why Rachmaninoff burlesque the pompous fanfares each time in a cruder way.
After an instant infatuation with a noble lady, Polichinelle reluctantly must fulfill his job of amusing his noble benefactors. His entrance motif is inverted (G to F Sharp). He abruptly vanishes from the royals as quick as he appeared compelled by disdain.
