Up To Me
Seven Nations Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

no i never drink my poison
no i never let you see
no i never drink my poison
unless it's good for me
no i never ponder confusion
sit around and wait to see
or watch the outcome of a certain situation
i had in mind for eternity

yeah it's up to me
what will be is up to me
no i never make a choice unless it's got to be
and i never give a reason

no i never sink my teeth in
no i never take a bite
no i never sink my teeth in
unless i feel the right
no i never play the jokerman
sit around and wait to see
or watch the outcome of a certain situation
i've had in mind for eternity

yeah it's up to me
what will be is up to me

no i never make a choice unless it's got to be
and i never give a reason

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Seven Nations's song Up To Me can be interpreted as a reflection of a person who is confident in their ability to make decisions and take control of their life. The repetition of "no, I never" emphasizes the singer's unwillingness to make choices or take actions unless they believe it is truly necessary or beneficial to themselves. The refrain "Yeah, it's up to me" reinforces this idea of personal agency and highlights the importance of taking responsibility for one's own life.

The lines "no i never drink my poison / unless it's good for me" suggest that the singer is aware of potential dangers or harmful choices, but is willing to engage in them if they believe it will ultimately benefit them. They also imply a level of self-control, as the singer is not simply indulging in harmful behavior for the sake of it. The verses also stress the singer's rejection of indecision or waiting for outside forces to dictate their actions or outcomes.

Overall, the lyrics to Up To Me convey a sense of self-assurance and self-reliance, as well as a willingness to take calculated risks for personal gain.

This band is awesome! I have seen them so many times. They do 3 shows in Dunedin when they are there. 2 live at the Celtic Festival and 1 in the Dunedin Brewery. They had an acoustic show there that was amazing.

@Runescribe

This video was shot at the 2000 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. The best year for their music ever. They had bands from half a dozen different countries that year.

@neoshain

My uncle is Kirk McLeod. When he first wrote the song in the nineties, it was called God. Back in the Clan Na Gael days. But when the band adopted the rock feel, he decided to change the name to Up To Me.

I also saw Seven Nations when they performed at East Tennessee State University and became hooked. Everyone is 100% spot on with the live performances - they are really good. I have seen them twice at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games.

Anybody here in 2020? I was OBSESSED with this band when I was a kid. Probably saw them 45 times. I was in a bagpipe band so it helped that we traveled to highland festivals constantly.
