بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ أَنْ أَنْذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ
أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ
يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذَا جَاءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا
فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا
وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوا أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَارًا
ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا
ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْلَنْتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا
فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا
يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا
وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْهَارًا
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا
وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا
أَلَمْ تَرَوْا كَيْفَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا
وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا
وَاللَّهُ أَنْبَتَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا
ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا
وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا
لِتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا
قَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِي وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنْ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُ وَوَلَدُهُ إِلَّا خَسَارًا
وَمَكَرُوا مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا
وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا
وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَالًا
مِمَّا خَطِيئَاتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا فَأُدْخِلُوا نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْصَارًا
وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارًا




إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوا إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا

Overall Meaning

Line by Line Meaning

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Introducing the words of the Quranic chapter and seeking refuge in Allah from Satan's influence.


Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], 'Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment.'
Allah sent Prophet Nuh to warn his people of the impending punishment.


He said, 'O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner,
Prophet Nuh informed his people that he was a clear and explicit warner for them.


[Saying], ' Worship Allah, fear Him and obey me.
Prophet Nuh advised his people to worship Allah, be mindful of Him, and obey him.


Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah , when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew.'
Prophet Nuh informed his people that if they follow Allah's commandments, He would forgive their sins and loan them time, but ultimately meet out His punishment at its appointed time.


He said, 'My Lord, I invited my people [to truth] night and day.
Prophet Nuh explained to Allah that he had been tirelessly inviting his people to the truth day and night.


But my invitation increased them not except in flight.
Despite Prophet Nuh's persistent invitation, his people refused to heed his call and instead, became more resistant and evasive.


And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.
Prophet Nuh revealed that every time he invited his people, they turned a deaf ear, covered themselves, became proud and arrogant, and refused to repent.


Then I invited them publicly.
Despite being met with resistance, Prophet Nuh remained firm and continued to invite his people publicly.


Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly
Prophet Nuh finally declared to his people in open and private settings, inviting them to seek Allah's forgiveness and become believers.


And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.
Prophet Nuh instructed his people to ask for Allah's forgiveness as He is the Ever-Forgiving, who always gives people the chance to repent.


He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers
Prophet Nuh explained that if his people repented and sought Allah's forgiveness, He would shower them with blessings and sustenance.


And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.
Allah would grant them abundance in wealth, children, and gardens with flowing rivers if they turned towards Him with sincere repentance.


What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur
Prophet Nuh questioned his people why they did not hold Allah in due esteem and recognition for all His grace and favours bestowed on them.


While He has created you in stages?
Prophet Nuh reminded his people that Allah created them in various stages, and this is enough to prove His grandeur and might.


Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers
Prophet Nuh calls his people's attention to the seven heavens created by Allah, that are placed one on top of the other in an ordered and harmonious manner.


And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?
Allah has made the moon a light-reflecting object and the sun a bright, luminous source of light and warmth.


And Allah has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth.
Allah has made us grow from the earth by providing all kinds of resources and sustenance.


Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction.
Just as Allah created human beings from the earth, He would also return them to the earth after their death, and then on the Day of Judgment, raise them again.


And Allah has made for you the earth an expanse.
Allah has made the earth a vast and sprawling space for human beings to live and traverse.


That you may follow therein roads of passage.''
Humans have the freedom to choose their paths and ways of living on this earth.


Noah said, 'My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children will not increase him except in loss.
Prophet Nuh complained to Allah that his people did not obey him and, instead, followed those who gained nothing from their wealth and children except loss.


And they conspired an immense conspiracy.
Prophet Nuh revealed the fact that his people had conspired against him through scheming and plotting.


And said, 'Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwa' or Yaghuth and Ya'uq and Nasr
Prophet Nuh exposed how his people abandoned the worship of Allah and instead followed false gods such as Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uk, and Nasr.


And already they have misled many. And, [my Lord], do not increase the wrongdoers except in error.''
These false gods have misled many people, and Prophet Nuh prays to Allah not to increase the evildoers in their wrongdoing.


Because of their sins, they were drowned and put into the Fire, and they found not for themselves besides Allah [any] helpers.
As a result of their sins, Allah caused a flood to drown Prophet Nuh's people and cast them into the fire, and no one came to their aid except Allah.


Noah said, 'My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.
Prophet Nuh prays to Allah never to leave disbelievers on the earth as they are a source of corruption and disobedience.


Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever.
If Allah leaves them, they would misguide His servants and never bring forth anything except malicious and disbelievers.


My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction.''
Prophet Nuh prays to Allah to forgive him, his parents, and all the believers, and he calls for the destruction of the evildoers.
