Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.
In May 2012 the band announced that Daniel Johansson left the band.

Carrie
Shiny Toy Guns Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Now you're silenced. and I'm breathing the cold.
You forgot me, almost lost me.
Every night was hell like battling war
Hesitation, frustration
What's the problem?
Is this what you want?
A pair of wings is all you're wishing for
You know, you know, you know
Carrie
Where did you go?
Carrie
Where did you go?
Carrie
What's wrong?
Carrie
Do you remember when you saw me
Wandering the dark streets?
You left me alone.
It wasn't like you, nothing like you
To paralyze our dreams of changing the world
Taken over by a cobra
Hooded warrior is deaf to the sounds
Shooting bright lights
Crimson walkways
Now we say new York's our city of love
Of love, of love, of love
Carrie
Where did you go?
Carrie
Where did you go?
Carrie
What's wrong?
Tell me what's wrong
I still, still feel the love we found
Carrie
Where did you go?
Carrie
Where did you go?
Carrie
Where did you go?
Carrie
What's wrong?
Tell me what's wrong
Tell me what's wrong
The song "Carrie" by Shiny Toy Guns is a melancholic and nostalgic reflection on lost love and lost friendship. The first stanza sets the scene of the singer's memories of their youth, which were fraught with violence, and how things have changed. The second stanza articulates the confusion, hesitation, and frustration of the singer towards the subject of the song, Carrie. The lyrics suggest that Carrie may be struggling with mental health issues, hearing voices and being restless, and wishes for a pair of wings. The chorus of the song is a repetition of the singer's question to Carrie, "Where did you go?" and an invitation to share what's wrong.
The third stanza alludes to a moment when Carrie left the singer alone while they were wandering the dark streets. The singer recognizes that it was nothing like Carrie to abandon them and notes that this event may have been a turning point that paralyzed their mutual dreams of changing the world. The fourth stanza is somewhat cryptic but seems to depict a brutal confrontation with a cobra and the shooting of bright lights in the crimson walkways of New York. The song ends with the singer still feeling the love they once shared with Carrie and asking what's wrong and where she went.
In summary, "Carrie" by Shiny Toy Guns is a deeply emotional and wistful song about lost love and friendship. The lyrics paint a picture of two people who were once close, but something has come between them, and the singer is trying to understand why. The song's evocative imagery and sorrowful melody make it a powerful expression of longing and heartache.
