Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.
In May 2012 the band announced that Daniel Johansson left the band.

Fading Listening
Shiny Toy Guns Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can’t stop them from believin'
And I can’t stop you from leavin'
I can’t stop you from believin'
I know I have a way
Of fading when I’m listening
Don’t you know I feel you
And I freak out
I’d lie if you say so
Come and you go
And you go-go
Come and you go
And you go-go
Come and you go
I’m all about the way
Of fading when I’m listening
Close enough to feel you
Don’t slow down
Don’t slow down
I can’t stop, wait
To believe it
Can’t stop,wait
I can’t stop, wait
To believe it
Can’t stop, wait
I can’t stop, wait
To believe it
Can’t stop, wait
I can’t stop, wait
To believe it
Can’t stop
To believe it
The lyrics to Shiny Toy Guns' Fading Listening are a reflection of the emotional tension between two people in a relationship. The first two lines of the song suggest that the singer can't control the actions or emotions of their partner or of others in their life. The repetition of "believe" in these two lines suggests that the singer may be struggling to understand why people leave or change their beliefs, values, or feelings, which could indicate that the relationship is in a state of flux. This sense of miscommunication or uncertainty is reinforced by the chorus, where the singer admits to "fading" when they listen, implying that they may not be fully listening or processing what others are saying. However, they also express a strong desire to connect with their partner, singing "Don't you know I feel you" and "Close enough to feel you," suggesting that despite their struggles, they still care deeply.
The second verse continues this exploration of the singer's emotional state, with lines like "I’d lie if you say so" and "Don't slow down" suggesting a sense of urgency or desperation. The repetition of "come and you go" and "go-go" could be interpreted as a comment on the transience of relationships or experiences, implying that everything is fleeting or temporary. This sentiment is reinforced by the bridge, where the singer confesses that they "can't stop, wait/To believe it," suggesting that they may be questioning their own beliefs and feelings, or struggling to trust themselves or others. In the final repetition of "can't stop," the singer appears to be trying to convince themselves of something, perhaps that the relationship will endure or that they will find clarity or resolution.
Overall, Fading Listening is a poignant examination of the complexities of love and human interaction, with a sense of yearning and vulnerability that is both relatable and emotionally resonant.

Only 211,213 views? God. These guys are seriously so criminally underrated. I hope they break into the mainstream world of radio music again, they deserve it.

All I can say is if you EVER have the opportunity to see these people live DO IT. DO NO HESITATE. I've honestly seen them upwards of 20 times, and I would drive great distances to see them again. They give some of the best shows out there. And no one is working harder then they are. I know their music forwards and backwards. I adore these four people. They should be HUGE. And this album should be the one that gets them there. The entire thing is prime.

Admire Jeremy's talent myself. I learned about him through MXMS and that is what brought me here. I wished I could play my keyboards as well as he does his.

I like when certain bands aren't commercially successful because then it feels like a little secret that I get to enjoy with a small but dedicated group of fans. STG are definitely one of those bands.
